Save Soil

Healthy soils are essential for healthy plant growth, human nutrition and water filtration. Healthy soil supports a landscape that is more resilient to the impacts of drought, flood or fire. Soil helps to regulate the Earth's climate and stores more carbon than all of the world's forests combined. The benefits are countless but we are polluting it for our means and before it is too late let us join the mission to save, with this thought CMS Aliganj Campus II collaborated with the ISHA foundation to sensitize the students.

A Special Assembly was organized by the students where members of ISHA foundation under the guidance of Great Indian spiritual leader Sadhguru Jagadish "Jaggi" Vasudeva conducted an interactive session regarding the globally launched movement 'Save Soil'- An initiative to promote policy intervention by government to take steps aimed at regenerating the soil which forms the basis of human existence on the planet. The members of the team showed a film explaining the project and motive of “Save Soil”. They highlighted the growing problem of soil erosion due to population explosion and explained that it is essential to reduce the erosion of soil and maintain fertility to save food nutrition. Members from the ISHA foundation also explained the importance of soil revitalization and shared some methods we can use to save the soil like nourishing our ‘Mother Earth’ with organic manures such as vermicompost, sheep and goat and farmyard manure.

The students interacted in the session and were told that the soil is a combination of minerals, organic matter and air in different proportions. It is important for life as it provides the medium for the growth of a plant and a habitat for several insects and other organisms. So, we all must ensure that our soil is rich and fertile to avoid an ecological disaster.

Children were excited after the session and pledged to be a part of such a great initiative. The session helped the students in incorporating SDG-3 i.e. Good health and Well-being and SDG-17 i.e. Partnership for the goal developing collaboration, and critical and analytical thinking skills.
