WORLD WATER DAY CELEBRATION

“Water - a priceless treasure, save it with pleasure.”

World Water Day is observed on March 22 every year to educate about the importance of water to the whole world and to raise awareness about the water crisis. The day also highlights the necessary improvement for access to water, hygiene facilities, and sanitation in all countries. The theme of World Water Day this year is “Groundwater, making the invisible visible” with the focus on Sustainable Development Goal number 6 which is aimed at achieving water and sanitation by all.

World Water Day was celebrated by the students and teachers of classes 1 and 2, CMS Aliganj Campus II with great enthusiasm on 22nd March 2022. The teachers delivered an awareness talk on the issue of the shortage of drinking water and its contaminants. Section Incharge Ms. Preeti Oberoi also spoke to the children on daily attitudes and practices that contribute to saving water. The students were informed about the importance of water conservation and groundwater system in water-scant countries like India. Students took a pledge to save water, made ‘Posters on Save Water - Save Life’ and “Bookmarks on Every Drop Counts” to understand the importance of good hygiene, sanitation, and conservation of water. They also watered the plants with the leftover water in their bottles.

Children were able to understand that water is an extremely important part of our lives. It is used for irrigation, cooking, washing, cleaning, drinking, etc. Water is essential for maintaining good health as it helps in regulating body temperature, carries out normal functioning, aids in digestion and removes toxins from the body. While doing the activities children enhanced their skills like creativity, communication, citizenship, and collaboration. Therefore, everyone should contribute to saving water.

World Forestry Day

“Forest restoration is a path to recovery and well-being.”

International Day of Forests also known as World Forest Day is observed on March 21 every year to honour and promote awareness about the value of all types of forests. The theme for 2022 is “Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumption” to increase awareness about the unprecedented role forests play in sustaining lives on this planet. Forests are the lungs of the planet Earth; they are resourceful and the habitat for wildlife and trees and some of the rarest of rare animals and plants. Considering this, students at City Montessori School, Aliganj Campus II were sensitized about the need of protecting our forests for a better future on 21st March 2022.

Students did their bit and got engaged in activities planned such as Videos showing the effects of deforestation, poster making with slogans and speeches on Forest sustainable management and their use of resources are key to combating climate change and contributing to the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations.

Students were involved and informed that forests also play a crucial role in poverty alleviation and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet despite all these priceless ecological, economic, social and health benefits, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate. Students also understood that forests are the sources of clean air and water. Thus, to have a healthy environment we should work with sustainability.

World Sparrow Day

“Fly high and explore the world.”

World Sparrow Day is observed every year on March 20 to raise awareness and protect the house sparrows. This year the theme is “I Love Sparrows”, inspired by the hope that more people will recognise the importance of the human-sparrow interaction. The theme's major goal is to emphasise people's passion for sparrows and the seemingly tiny things they do to make a great difference in the birds' lives.

City Montessori Aliganj Campus II is proud to be a part of the “Har Ghar Ek Gauriya” Campaign on this occasion. Under this campaign, students are made aware of the importance of chirping birds in our lives who create magical music which brings peace to minds and joy to hearts.

Students were encouraged to love the birds and take care of them especially when the harsh summer season is knocking on our door and the birds need cool shades and water just like humans. They made beautiful bird feeders using plastic bottles and recycling materials, drew pictures of Sparrows and wrote a few lines on them expressing their love for birds.

The purpose of observing this day was not only to honour the event for a day but also to use it as a platform to emphasise the importance of sparrow conservation and urban biodiversity. Thus, incorporating SDG -15 i.e. Life on Land.
