Young Voices for Peace…

Selected extracts from letters of students of Karachi High School, Karachi, Pakistan
replying to the letters of students of City Montessori School, Lucknow, India

1

Despite our individual likes and dislikes, we all belong to the sect of humanity. The hue of our blood speaks of our oneness & solidarity. The international boundaries made by man should not hamper the mental state equality and brotherhood that is the natural gift of God to man. The unethical postulates of religious fanaticism and immoral invocation should be checked from blemishing the lines of our unity. Let us discover our long lost oneness and establish a bond of friendship. It is high time we realize the intensity of the possible partition lest we choke ourselves to death & distress.

— Sana Aslam, XI
Karachi High School, Karachi, Pakistan
replying to the letter of
Bhavesh Goel, XI of City Montessori School,Gomti Nagar Branch

It is high time we realize and also make our elders realize that a war is not the only solution to our problems. All my classmates also agree that love and unity should prevail among the residents of the two neighbouring countries. I hope like you that we children can be an example to our rowdy and stubborn elders who knowing all the consequences of the enmities between us, one still eager to resort to severe measures to resolve minute differences.

— Yasir Nasir, XI-O
Karachi High School, Karachi, Pakistan
replying to the letter of
Rohan Agarwal, XI-O of City Montessori School, Mahanagar Branch

In the case of peace and harmony in our countries I would like to say that I am entency pleased that you took the first step to remove all sorts of hatred and misunderstanding between our countries. We all know that we live in the same continent called 'Asia'. I think Asia is like a family and we all are the members of this family we should live united and work for each other's progress. We the students, are the future of our countries and should try to bring peace in our countries and in the world. We, the student of Pakistan, are always with you. And I hope the step which we have taken will bring same good results in future for India & Pakistan.

— Umair Arif, XI-O
Karachi High School, Karachi, Pakistan
replying to the letter of
Vishnu Kumar Katra, XI-A of City Montessori School, Station Road Branch

If we enunciate this amicable relation between India and Pakistan, I believe it would be the best super power of the world and could easily tackle any problems. For it, we have to eradicate all differences which have been created long time back, and we as a new generation should stem out all differences and should extend a hand for betterment of the countries. Keeping aside our religion, I firmly believe that India and Pakistan can work like a well- team, a brotherly relation. To have wars and fights between each other does not brings positive achievements. The only outcome to this is bloodshed massacre and killing of people who are not even part of this episode. Why not merge together where people of India and Pakistan are the spinal cord and Indo-Pakistan its body? Let us create harmony and prosperity and form one circle. Let us may together that brotherhood, unity, Patience, endurance and harmony prevails is Pakistan and India too.

— Rabil Amanullah, xI-O

replying to the letter of
Ankita, XI-C of City Montessori School, Lucknow Branch

Its my personal belief that positive interaction is the main source of eliminating all kinds of ill. Peace can only be achieved if all of us together make an effort towards bringing it about as it is a necessity in today world. We all need to realize the importance of peace and friendship. I think it we want a peaceful world we must learn to look beyond us and take an interest in other people's lives without disrupting their privacy. The prosperity and well being of any country depends on its citizens. And we as human beings should extend warm feelings around the world. Hence, new friendship is the beginning of a better and a happy world which you wrote about in your letter. I must certainly agree with you that development of any kind will only take place it we fulfil others needs, let us walk on this beautiful path of friendship and together we shall help in making this world a better place it not a perfect one.

Looking at the current situation prevailing between India and Pakistan, I feel that this atmosphere of hatred and distrust needs to be ended for the betterment of all. If the money spent on war is spent for the development then the countries can develop. If both the countries resolve to end up the fight, we can surely bring about peace. May peace prevail on earth.

I agree with you that war gives nothing but it disturbs peace, sheds blood, creates enmity and increases tension further. Let us try to solve this problem and try to create friendship and brotherly relations between the two countries and if we succeeded in doing this we shall be one of the most powerful, rich and the successful countries of the world.

— Daniya Ladif, X-O

replying to the letter of
Poornima Pande, XI of City Montessori School, Mahanagar Branch

Mr. Jagdish Gandhi has done a great job by introducing the 'pen friends club'. There is no use of fighting with each other, and I hope this club would be successful.

It is our duty to promote peace in our nation. It is useless to fight with each other only on the basis of religion or some other reason. All of us are human beings. War ends in nothing but destruction of both the nations. Is it not better that we use the money to develop our country instead of buying weapons for war? We must by our best that both the countries live peacefully. It is a good idea for the children to get together and explain to their elders that war is not the solution to the problems we face. It is better to think over calmly and get a better solution. I hope that we are successful in our mission to spread peace and prosperity.

Shahana Ali, XI-B of City Montessori School, Gomti Nagar Branch

Regarding the discussion of how we neighbours have been behaving lately, it is very grieving to know that though Pakistan and India, both share almost the same heritage, we still retrain from sharing our views and resolve our differences. Allama Iqbal, our national poet is respected in both the nation. He, wrote the anthem which you recite 'Saray Jhan Se Acha Hindustan Hamarah'. I guess even Ghalib could never have thought that India would be divided into two nations, the division is not the problem, we though divided can stand hand in hand to fight off all allegation and comments passed on us by the world. Moreover, I'd like true to say that we are a family and differences do arise among family members, but they should not result in enmity. I wish our politicians, would learn from the children of today who are spreading the message of love, peace and harmony. So lets forgive and forget what went by and join hands together for a better sub-continent as friends.

— Saad Amin Shiwani, XI-O
Karachi High School, Karachi, Pakistan
replying to the letter of
Prakhar, XI of City Montessori School, Lucknow Branch

See there are so many things which are common between you and me and still people call us separate nation it's like mother, sub-continent has two sons who live separately but in a real manner we are two heart one soul. I think it's been fifty years and we hardly done any thing for peace. We all know that we nation love each other and can live as a cross finger forever.

In the end I would wish that our governments would put an end to the disputes and arguments. Our school has always taught us to shake hands with others and forgive and forget. It's the duty of each and every child to strive for harmony to prevail I believe that there is no issue which cannot be resolved peacefully. When our outstanding problems are solved, the economic and social conditions of our counties will improve and living standard of people will become better. It is my thinking that if we make on earnest effort based on the nation of universal brotherhood, then the day is not for when we will see better relationships between with the countries. I wish and prey, that for the sake of people's prosperity and well being , the leaders of both the country should take steps to solve the problems peacefully.

I appreciate Mr. Jagdish Gandhi's step towards peace. If we want to maintain good relation, between us then we must negotiate on all disputed matters like Kashmir. The people of both countries want Kashmir, but we have another option, where there are no chances of mistakes which is the united nation. Learn not saying that Kashmir is an Kashmir should be free. If we can solve this problem, we will have peace and the chances to improve are abilities. The money which we spend in making of aims, we can spend that money on poverty, education, science and technology. If we become friends us one in the world will be able to threaten us. You have entered this land of friendship towards us. So have we . I hope this great efforts goes a long way.

We should explain our elders and the people of our country for peace. If they wanted to do so, they do but against education, against poverty, these are thousands of people who even don't have any house to live in, instead of wasting money by buying bombs, pistols etc. they should spend this money in the development of our country.
