I
agree with you that the Kashmir issue has certainly been blown out of proportion. People my age in Pakistan usually know very little of the Indian perspective on the issue other than what has been presented by the media and the textbooks. I do not favour a nationalistic approach. I consider our common humanity as the singular cohesive force between us. The notion of perfect compatibility. Similar appearance is by no means indicative of commonalities in personality. We must, however, understand that we are different but can still achieve optimum compatibility by changing our obstinate attitudes. Kunal lets adopt rationality. Lets not accredit our economic stagnation mainly to our expenditure on
defense. Our lack of development has been the consequence of gross inefficiencies in the past and present. The best we can do, currently, is write letters and essays, professing peace. We (our generation) are not ruling our countries. We are members of states run by people who do not share our views. So what I find appreciable about this 'Lets make pen pals' scheme is that it is informative of the general opinion of our generation in our respective countries. This scheme cannot influence the present but can better the future. |

On receiving your letter, I came to realize our responsibilities as human beings. I feel that we children are the next generation and soon our country's responsibility will be on our shoulders. The Kashmir issue, which is the main reason of
tension between the two nations, can only be solved by negotiations and peaceful processes. I earnestly wish that you will extend maximum friendships to ensure a peaceful, healthier and secure world for ourselves and the future generations. Just imagine how friendship will lead to the progress of these two nations, but this can only be achieved by whole hearted friendship, co-operation and love, for which, I extend my hand towards you. |

The thing that itches me a lot is that the peace in our country has lanquished in the recent years and I believe that every problem has a remedy. We can have peace after we stop hating love, and stop loving hate. And I believe that creating peace and harmony can be attainable due to a dedicated effort. I am looking forward in building peace between Pakistan and India. |

Kashmir is the cause of tension between two countries and war is no solution to it. War leads to killing of civilians and bloodshed. War only brings damage and destruction. I am also not in favour of war. I think both countries should resolve this problem by dialogues and negotiations. My friends and I are ready to shake a hand of friendship with you. I accept you invitation of peace and harmony. We both countries should forget our differences and be together and fill our area called sub continent with peace, harmony, love and friendship. I also invite you to come to Pakistan. We will do everything we can do to entertain you. I think you will agree to my point of view. Only peace, harmony and friendship can make our future bright while war will ruin it. Do reply me.

I am very grieved to see the growing tension between Pakistan and India, and as you pointed out that the Kashmir problem is the major reason for this tension.1 believe that both countries should peacefully talk over this issue and try to resolve it through negotiations and I fully agree with you that we children have a major role to play in making a progressive future. The fact is that war would not benefit any country and, therefore, we should spread the message of peace and friendship. Because if our countries overcome the differences we could greatly benefit from each other. So lets ensure a bright future. |

What depresses you, depresses me and my class fellows too as it is the matter of these countries in which we are living. I guess it is a matter not only of Kashmir or any one country. We children are the backbone of our nations and it depends on us to make our country's future. The crime is spreading all over the world. We should from today promise to try our level best to wipe out crime from this world including our countries so that there is peace everywhere. Our goal is to solve the long lasting problems of Indo-Pak peacefully. Among those problems Kashmir issue is the major. We should make our friendship strong so that there is no violence and the environment is peaceful. |

Asalam-O-Alekum to all those who wrote and are willing to make a contribution for the better tomorrow in the sub continent. Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist do not matter because if we are a single, united nation than we are under one flag. The flag of peace, harmony, co-operation and love. However, I consider not to start a discussion with the Kashmir dispute or any other past issue, which still guards the two borders. |

The subcontinent was once a golden sparrow but hatred between India and Pakistan has made its golden colour to fade. You yourself think of those days of war, with atomic explosions everywhere, racking noise of guns followed by vetting sound of empty shells. No food to eat and water to drink. Bloodshed of humanity and total days of isolation. This would blunt our shiny future. |

The word victory is generally associated in our minds with war, and
calls up visions of battles, bloodshed and conquest by forces and we
think of war as a glorious thing. But when I think of the
achievements of great men, statesmen, scholars, social reformers,
scientists and honest workers for the betterment of human race and
the progress and the civilization of the world, we realise that the
victories of peace are even more glorious than the victories of war.
Men who are always grumbling about their poverty, complaining of
their difficulties, whining over their troubles, and thinking that
their lot in this world is mean and poor will never get any
happiness out of life or achieve any success. However, mean our life
may be, if we face bravely and honestly and try to make the best of
it is a great thing to take a pride in our work. Let us hope that
good sense prevails. Let those who believe in violence learn a
lesson from the horrible devastation caused by world wars. We all
should pray that peace prevails everywhere. |

I am also against the things happening between Pakistan and India.
Those two countries which I am talking about are enemies since 1947

friendship will lead to peace but a war will lead to disaster. I am
sure we will be successful in our mission. |

I am happy that you tried to seek pen friendship here in Pakistan,
as it is a good way to find peace. I agree with you that it is the
need of the present time that we should solve all of our disputes
amicably and try and live as friendly neighbours. War is a brutal
and incomplete way of solving disputes and even after a war we have
to come to a table to talk to each other. I am very happy that you

The increasing gap and tension between both countries has led to
many wrong things. Even to this extent, that both have not played a
cricket match since 3 years. We, being sensible, have to spread the
message of peace and harmony. We must not broadcast any propagandas
against ourselves but we have to be friends and amiable So, in the
end I would like to say that we must live in a peaceful and clam
environment and atmosphere so, 'May Peace prevail in India and

I appreciate your school's efforts regarding the peace promotion
between Pakistan and India - similarly here in Pakistan several
educational and non-educational institutions are busy engaged in
raising awareness among our citizens for the need for increased
cooperation between the two nations. My school is one of the finest
schools of Pakistan and it is also promoting need for peace. Many
seminars, anti-war campaigns and debates are organised by my school,
the agenda of which is mainly peace and harmony. We are taught that
war is not a sophisticated way of resolving conflicts. Thus we are
totally against war and other such destructive means of securing
power. |

I got your letter and am glad that you have offered me pen
friendship. I am happy to know about your struggles for peace for
this world and would like to join hands with you in this mission. I
agree with your voice and will try all my best to convey your
message of peace and harmony to others, and help you to achieve
success in your struggle against war. Though Pakistan and India are
neighbour, but still the relations between them are very tense. Both
the countries had always been at dagger's drawn and the bone of
contention between them is the Kashmir issue, which should be solved
through negotiations, or otherwise a disastrous nuclear war shall
begin in South East Asia, which shall be a great set back for both
the countries and people. I believe that if we have a firm belief
that God has created this universe and every creature present on it,
and all human beings are equal, and keeping this in mind, we
sacrifice for each other, all problems shall be solved, we shall be
friends and would be able to cultivate the feeling of love and
fraternity in our hearts for each other. Anyhow, don't you worry,
because now you are not alone in your struggle against war and in
the mission of peace and harmony, but we will work together and I
ensure you that we shall be able to make this part on earth, a
peaceful region with harmony and contentment ruling it. May Allah
help us to make earth a peaceful place to live in. |

When I heard about the letters coming from our neighbouring country,
I got excited and it was my luck that I got your letter. I had many
reasons of replying but the most important is that I had to
experience pen friendship and the other reason is for peace between
the two nations. Our religion also teaches us about love, peace and
harmony. This is not good thing that the two mighty nations of the
world are fighting for nothing. This issue can be solved by
dialogue. Compassion is the best way to solve everything. If one
does something wrong, one must compromise. The two countries have
taken the correct step to establish peace through the students. |

I accept your proposal of friendship with an open heart. I agree to
lend a helping hand to spread the message of peace, love and
friendship. In our present time we see our environment changing.
Today there is chaos, bloodshed and misery everywhere. Hatred today
is human nature. I am relieved to see that people who care for peace
still exist. Making peace between India and Pakistan will be a major
step towards our goal of "World Peace. If we take this step
today then the world will be ours tomorrow. Lets join hands to teach
this world the meaning of peace, which is currently oblivious of
it. |

I read you letter and really appreciate your great gesture and am
here with the reply. Now coming to your letter, you have written
that you want to encourage peace and friendship between India and
Pakistan. War is not and will never be the answer to any sort of
issue or contention, so it only leaves behind its dreadful marks of
destruction and bloodshed. As both countries are nuclear powers the
first priority on everyone's (citizens of both the countries) mind
should be promoting peace and harmony. This attitude would later end
in friendly ties between the two. So I hereby close this letter by
thanking you once more for taking this major step in developing
peace between the two nations and hope that this later succeeds as
one of the most successful projects ever. Thank you for your
co-operation. |

In your letter you've also expressed your feelings about Pakistan
and India relationship. I was very pleased to read that the new
generation in India is against war. As you have written that you
want Pakistan and India to talk over the matters and solve the
problems peacefully. It reflects on what our future generation plans
and thinks. I am also very much against war and I think that the
differences between Pakistan and India should be settled through
talks, not through might or weapons, Moreover, Pakistan and India
are now nuclear powers and as the saying goes "With great power
comes great responsibility”. We are children of such age group who
can make the future of both countries bright and prosperous. So, let
us spread the message of peace in the world. |

The main purpose of writing this letter is to tell you about what

Your opinions are absolutely right, because no further improvement
and development can take place until both Pakistan and India come to
a peaceful agreement. What both these countries need is a very
strong and solid friendship, which should never be broken, because
it is obvious that from battles, arguments, disputes and conflicts
no progress will take place. Friendship is indeed like a shady tree

You mentioned in your letter that you don't like the situation
between Pakistan and India same is the case with me I also hate this
situation. You are right that both countries are developing and
cannot afford a war because it is very destructive. The hatred
between both countries is increasing I don't know what is this all
for. All this bloodshed and hatred is useless. I would take us to
nowhere but destruction. So friend harmony is the best way to bring
both countries close. |

First of all I would thank your school for communicating with us.
This indeed is a good way in which we both Indian and Pakistani
children can understand each other. Pakistan and India should make
peace with one another because, where there is peace, there is
grace. Pakistan and India truly cannot afford a war. A war will only
take us into the depth of poverty and unemployment. Thousands of
innocent lives will perish away only because of war. A war will
cause suffering, distress and agony to the people. A war between
Pakistan and India would be a total destruction of both countries.
Peace is far better than a war. |

I appreciate your concern about peace and friendship. It's a great
effort towards the ultimate goal that is to make this world a heaven
on earth where there are no rivalries, no tensions, and no enmity.
It is high time that we, the citizens of both the countries, should
exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship and be responsible. We can have
mutual cooperation in all matters. We should be tolerant and patient

Having good and friendly relations with neighbours is a principle,
stressed in both in Quran and Geeta. So, should not Pakistan and
India forget conflicts through the exchange of good will missions
and try to improve their relations? Pakistan and India have similar
problems, for both are third world countries and are developing
nations. Although, the religion of majority of people living in
Pakistan is Islam whereas in India it is Hinduism. Both of its
inhabitants have same needs, desires and problems. Thus, we must not
fight on the differences between Pakistanis and Hindus, but be
optimistic about our similarities. |

I got your message of peace and harmony. I am glad to tell you that
I had the same thoughts about peace. Well, I have written this
letter to inform you about the wars which I must say, are becoming
very common in the world but we are the ones who should tell our
adults to have peace and love between the two countries, Pakistan
and India and make the relationships between the two countries as
cool as a cucumber and not only in these countries but all over the
world. I know that this is a hard nut to crack but when there is a
will there is always a way. So, we should tell them that war is not
the solution of any quarrels. In fact, it has never been fruitful.
Only the innocent suffer. So, I offer you a friendship so that we
can join hands to establish peace, love and harmony. I am sure; with
this friendship we can do a lot for our countries and help our
countries in different circumstances. So, I am sure you have
understood the message and help me prevailing peace in India,

My intimate Indian friend, War causes destruction and they are
useless. We do not get anything from the wars. The dark clouds are

I completely agree with what you wrote in your letter and would like
to add that all of us Pakistanis do, like you Indians, want peace
and harmony to cultivate in the entire world, especially between our
countries. It would make things so much easier! What is prevalent in
the world is very sad and presents an awfully gloom picture. I mean,
can you point any single country, which is truly dedicated in
restoring peace? America wants to invade Iraq because it wants to
acquire all the oil-laden lands of the country. Likewise, Iraq
invaded Kuwait in order to seize the wealth of the small state.
Similarly, Pakistan and India are engaged in a cold war, if I may
say so, over a piece of land! Are the aforementioned countries
really truly devoted to the people of Kashmir? What role does India
basically have in Kashmir? But having said that, what is Pakistan's
role? Do the Kashmiri's deserve this? I pray with extreme sincerity
and hope for restoration of friendly ties between our countries and
would like to end by saying that our life is action not
contemplation. It is our generation, which holds the future. And it
is only us who can take concrete steps to rectify the apparent
situation! |

It was a pleasure to know that children on the other side of the

Although children should be playing an important role in the future

are a lot of organisations, groups and movements that have been
making efforts to solve Indo-Pak problems but their efforts today
seems to be useless. Yet we must not feel discouraged and join hands

It's indeed very pleasing to observe steps taken to bridge the gap
between India and Pakistan. I bet, the gulf between the two nations
is not much; it’s just that no one is willing to overcome it.
Steps taken, such as establishing World Peace Organisation,
promoting 'Aao Dosti Karein' and most importantly taking part in it
with pure heart and true spirit would definitely help the cause.
Though as a nation, we have never fused but individually we have
common interests and similar thoughts. Still 'Why don't we care for

Slouched deep into my bed with a cup of tea on my left and a junk of
scattered magazines and P.C. games on the floor, I picked your
letter at about twenty past eleven, here, on Thursday. Your writing
impressed me and intrigued me to know about a new person as a
friend. But after going through your letter I felt sad as well as
guilty. Actually, frustration hit me and now I repent that it should
have been me who should have extended this hand of friendship!
Obviously, I understand well the condition of the two countries. The
development, which is already quite slow, may be completely hampered
due to a war. The hostile atmosphere further encourages both the
countries to strengthen their defences with the capital, which might
be used for the development of our countries. Therefore, we surely
need to develop good relations; it might not be our ancestors but
let it be us. I congratulate you for starting a mission, which, I
hope, we all will together accomplish. I am just glad that some of
you there agree with our belief in peace and friendship. I hope

Peace, it is not just a word. It is something, which can change or
make our future better. The struggle, which our great leaders have
done to get these countries, we should not spoil it. It can be
dangerous. We must stop all these killings and wars. We should not
threat each other about it rather we should live peacefully. We must
stop all these quarrels because we will not get anything from it. It
is our good luck that we have the nuclear power. But we should not

I would always like to see Pakistan and India living in peace and harmony. 'We all want to live in 'peace', not in pieces. We are separated from same nation, we have same colour of blood, so why can't we be same in the attitude. Why can't we get united? I am sure that both these countries want peace. India and Pakistan should look forward for negotiations for peace. Negotiations will surely reduce India - Pakistan tension. Peace is a secret to a longer life. We surely don't want innocent people being killed. Peace is a security to a longer life. The Indo-Pak tension is since Pakistan came into existence only because of our religions and sectarianism. So it is a great responsibility on us to spread peace and harmony amongst our countries. We should keep aside religious differences and think as human beings not as Hindus and Muslims. favourites. I am 101% sure, if we join our hands, the war and hatred would find no place to live on the face of the earth. |

We can make our country safe, strong and prosperous for our public without any war and terrorism. It is also historical truth that war can't solve any problem. The best way to solve the problem is to hold the dialogues. We have been living in this subcontinent for many centuries. Why can't we live as a good
neighbours? Now we should come forward and join our hands with the commitment of friendship forever. |

I love friendship, I love peace, I dislike war, I hate destruction. War brings destruction, loneliness and an unsafe future. Peace is a good thing, it bring us happiness, safety and a sound future. Due to peace we can spend a successful life. Let's tell our elders that we both (I Shaharyar from Pakistan and you Prakur from India) want peace, love and friendship for our whole life and don't want war and destruction. |

I think a nation is only happy when there is peace. For sake of people of India and Pakistan, it's time these nations should stop revelling in rivalry. Both countries need to talk in a spirit of sacrifice and understanding. Instead of spending huge amount on defence we should emphasize reforms in health and education that would benefit the region. Let's extricate ourselves from all weapons and make this planet an Utopia. |

We are all children of one God and we all need 'peace'. We never
wish to fight with our neighbours. We know that war is not the
solution of any problem. Some must try to avoid it. Every person on
earth should hate war and war loving people for the sake of
humanity. |

Peace, a word which people think is nothing but has very much
importance in our life. We should make peace with each other so that
we should become friends. With peace people can make more progress
and bring more comfort and happiness to the citizens. We can make
our life very peaceful. We should solve our problems by doing work
with each other. We can also take help of our neighbours. In Quran
there are also some verses about neighbourhood. It is written,
"Do help your neighbours and they will help you "or"
He will not be a good Muslim whose neighbour is in trouble and he is
not helping him." We should sacrifice for our neighbours. We
should make our neighbours our friends. If we will do like this,
then we can't make good progress and there will be peace and only
peace. We should be good helping neighbours. We should share advance
technologies and good culture. |

Peace has lots of importance in our lives but it is in the very few
countries of the world. Today, we are not peaceful countries because
we have no unity. God has given us the best brain to think among all
creatures on earth but we don't use it. There is no peace because
people have become selfish.
If we live peacefully without any fighting and helping each other in
the problems, we can become the most developed countries of the
world. |

Well, I read your views on war and I totally agree with you. It is a
peril to mankind. It is caused by wealthy politicians who are
egoistical. Wear and tear of money is war. I will pursue the step
taken by your school to persuade people to spread peace, harmony,
love, synchronisation and adoration for peace. |

I am delighted to receive your letter. I offer myself as a pen
friend to you. We must follow the path of peace in order to progress
and live in harmony as good neighbours. Without peace we cannot
achieve anything since we keep on wasting our resources and energy
in developing animosity. We all in one way or another depend on each
other. Peace is the only hope for this decaying globe. |

We as a Pakistani and as a Muslim also feel that war is not the
solution of our problems. God has given us this beautiful world and
we should not destroy it by our own hands. Once our fore fathers
were together for the last 500 years. No doubt that we have some
issues to settle but the greatest thing should be
"humanity". We must not repeat our mistakes. Peace for the
sake of humanity. |

avoiding wars, we should all think of everything in possible ways.

War is not a good thing to do! During wars, the soldiers throw so
