Lucknow, 25 March: CMS President Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon - who is also Professor of Economics of Education at University Colleage London (UCL) - presented a paper on ‘The Myth and Reality of teacher shortage in India' recently at the Columbia Summit on the Indian Economy, in New York. The Summit was organised by Columbia University in partnership with the Consulate General of India in New York. Her paper, jointly authored with Dr Sandip Datta of Delhi School of Economics, debunks the popular myth of an acute teacher shortage in public elementary schools, by analysis of the official DISE data.

The Summit included IMF’s Executive Director, Krishnamurthy Subramaniam (who was until recently Chief Economic Adviser to the Govt of India); former Ambassadors of USA to India, Kenneth Juster and Frank Wisner; Columbia University’s Professor Arvind Panagariya (former Vice-Chair of Niti Aayog); Consul General of India in the US, Mr Randhir Jaiswal; Dr Poonam Gupta, Director of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER, New Delhi), and other distinguished speakers.
