Message from the CMS President

Prof. Geeta Kingdon
President, CMS
Dear Parents,

August has been a month of scintillating internal and international events, creating mind-expanding and out-of-class learning opportunities for our students.

CMS student teams returned happily from Austria, France, Norway where they had gone for month-long CISV (Children’s International Summer Village) camps. In this month CMS student teams also returned triumphant with trophies and awards from Mauritius and South Africa, where they had gone for a Quality Summit and Maths competition respectively.

The ‘Odyssey 2019’ by the CMS Rajajipuram campus I, the four day international event to celebrate the English language, was spectacularly successful. With participation of school teams from 5 countries and several Indian states, it authentically created the look and feel of Jacobean England, and brought to life the literary works of Shakespeare through ‘period costumes’ and renditions of famous tracts from Shakespeare’s plays, soliloquys and sonnets.

It developed a love for the English language by giving students a sense of its richness which enables finding just the right words to express the very particular nuances one wishes to convey. The cultural items were delightful, a special attraction being a rendition of the Lion King, the Disney film. Congratulations to the indefatigable Principal Mrs. Nisha Pandey and her amazing team of teachers, for the sheer scale of their ambition in organizing Odyssey 2019!

The Child Well-Being Survey of CMS junior and senior students and its fascinating findings were discussed in-depth at our psychological counsellors’ August meeting. The survey has permitted a better understanding of our students’ patterns of diet, nutrition, physical exercise, internet usage, experience of bullying and cyber-bullying, and of their attitudes towards gender, the environment and their general well-being. This will permit more targeted counselling at the campuses. I am delighted to report that the Virtues Project for which extensive training of about 500 teachers was completed in June has finally got its full time champion in CMS from mid-August and we expect the work under this project to pick up speed, working alongside the Junior Youth Empowerment Project.
