CMS Environment Coordinators Meeting held on
Tuesday, 31 January 2017 at 12:30 PM

A monthly review meeting of all CMS Environment Coordinators was held on Tuesday, 31st January 2017. Mrs. Farida Vahedi, Head, Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building, chaired the meeting and welcomed all the coordinators as well as the Eco club members (students) of Jopling Road and Kanpur Road Campus.

The meeting started with a prayer. Following are the highlights of the meeting:

 

Two students from Eco Club known as ‘Team Green’ which consists of 25-30 members shared their report as follows:

They firstly informed that they arrange meetings regularly with their Environment coordinator and make plans of action.  
As part of their Eco club activities, they observed various international days that fell during last year with great enthusiasm and zeal. They celebrated World Health Day which was focused on Diabetes, International Water Day, International Health Day, Heritage Day, Bee Day. They wrote articles, arranged special assemblies
To celebrate SCIENCE DAY they participated in the PPT presentation competition organized by Regional Science Center on 6.11.16 in which Rohit Kansal stood IInd and Ayushi Chitranshi received consolation prize.
On World Diabetes Day, Children were able to have awareness on diabetes by telling the importance of healthy life in the assemblies.

 

Preeti Gautam and Varuni showed a powerpoint presentation which they had prepared on Sustainability and Bio-Diversity. They went to Botanical Garden and then carried a survey in their campus garden. They made compost which taught them that even the waste can be useful. They made terrarium and planted saplings, prepared herbarium files. They carried out a plantation drive project. Pre-primary children went to apartments and planted saplings. They spoke with the residents and asked them to water the plants and take care of them. They meet every Saturday mornings and plan their action.

The coordinator also shared the report with everyone.

 

Two students from Eco Club shared their report as follows:

They try and conserve the environment in every possible way. They observed World Population day, World Infants Day and other international days of the month. Group discussion in the assembly was organized on SMOG after Diwali holidays.

November 7th- Infant Protection Day and Cancer Awareness Day was observed. During the morning assembly children were informed about the major diseases which are killing new born babies across the world and the steps to prevent them.
Cancer Awareness Day in which students were informed about this deadly disease and how it is caused. Head girl Isha Shukla spoke on preventive measures taken against this disease.
World Diabetes Day was observed on 15th November when children were informed about diabetes by Aditya Gupta and Muskan Shukla in the morning assembly.
International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict was observed on November 6 where Shashank Mishra spoke on sustainable development of the developing countries and to curb the usage of arms and ammunition or bio weapon that lead to the degradation of the environment so that the future generations could have a better future.
Smog is a kind of air pollution, originally named for the mixture of smoke and fog in the air. Classic smog results from large amounts of coal burning in an area and is caused by a mixture of smoke and sulfur dioxide. This discussion took place between the students in the assembly during the start of winter after the Diwali holidays where a blanket of smoke was seen which then was explained was not fog but smog that adversely affected the health of the people in many ways and the best way to curb the situation was to do it by putting water in the ground resulting in the clearance of smog.

 

Aliganj I: The coordinator informed about the benefits of carpool. Air Pollution questionnaire has been done at the campus level. Meatless day was observed on 25th November.

Aliganj II: 2 visits to Regional Science City were made. Cleanliness drives are carried out.

                Anand Nagar: International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflicts on November 6th was observed.  A talk show was organized and they encouraged everyone to save the environment and not to engage in such activities. On World Science Day for peace and Development on November 10th, a special assembly was conducted and a few students presented the need and importance of Science and its development. World Toilet Day on November 19th was observed and a group activity was conducted to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis – topic often neglected and shrouded in taboos. Children of primary class drew pictures and explained its importance. Poster making competition on Air Pollution was conducted for junior students on November 22nd on the topic - Be the part of the solution not a part of pollution.

Asharfabad: Anti air pollution campaign in the community was carried out and handmade diyas, paper crackers were distributed. Visit to two orphanages where children were taught the steps of proper hand washing, soap cakes and handkerchiefs were distributed which were donated by the students, nukkad natak was performed.
International day for preventing the exploitation of the environment in war and armed conflict on November 6 was observed and presentation on the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was shown and their effects on the environment were told, documentary on climate change was shown. International children’s day, International day of tolerance on 6 November was observed and talk show and presentation on tolerance was made. On Meatless Day, pledge was conducted for not consuming meat, preprimary children made collages on animals and were taught compassion for animals.

Gomti Nagar I: A visit to the “Missionaries of Charity” on October 26th 2016 for few children of the Pre Primary section was planned. The children distributed apples and peda and celebrated Diwali by lighting the diyas, to the inmates of the “Missionaries of charity” .They were happy to receive this sweet fruit, and blessed the institution.
Halloween Celebration was observed. Celebrating Halloween served two great purposes one was introducing toddlers to the world outside India which is also one of the core values of City Montessori School, and the other was sensitizing them to the funny side of being scared.The children and parents showcased their wit and talent by dressing up as various scary characters.  Diwali was celebrated. The colour of rangoli, the lights of Diyas, the taste of sweets, the beautiful attires of our toddlers and above all the enthusiasm of the festival added colour and vibrancy to the Diwali celebration in the Preprimary section. The day started by welcoming the students dressed in beautiful colourful ethnic wear. This was followed by arti and pooja in the lobby. It was followed by Prasad distribution.

Jopling Road: The following activities were carried out in the month of November:-
1. World Parliament: - was based on the 17 sustainable development goals such as zero poverty, climate change, gender equality, global partnership. Member nations expressed their views on the SDGs.
2. Street Play was performed to create awareness amongst the masses about the nutritional and sustainability aspects of pulses. This was done as per the guidelines of FAO since this year has been declared as the International Year of Pulses by the UNO.
3. A multimedia presentation showing the action projects and the other environment related activities was prepared and shown to the parents. 
4. The street play was performed at Ram Swaroop College where they won the first prize.

Kanpur Road: Earthian reports were submitted to Ms Devika Mathur on 4th Nov. On 11th Nov the students performed a Nukkad Natak showing the relationship between water, health, sanitation and economic disparity at LPS Sec-9.
And the group got 1st prize for the best script along with the trophy of Dastak Elna. Students of Eco Club prepared a street play on food wastage for QC Delegation. This topic has been taken as a social issue. Duration for this play was 10 minutes with 7 participants. In the continuation of Biodiversity activity students have written an essay on the topic:-'Nature with respect to Indian Mythology. Students of Eco Club have discussed many amendments in Indian Constitution in favour of Protecting Rights of Women, for example:- Nirbhaya,Vishakha, etc., Students discussed on few programs also for the welfare of female child, for example:- Beti Bachao Beti Badhao, Indardhanush, etc. Few students have prepared 'Best from the Waste'. Coriander and Onion was planted in the school campus just to know difference in Vegetative and Seed Planting.

Mahanagar I: Special assembly was organized to make the students aware about eco- friendly Diwali. Students discussed about the need to celebrate eco- friendly for the welfare of environment and all living organisms. They pledged not to burst crackers and to share happiness all around. They brought gifts for the support staff of the campus and presented the gifts to them in school assembly as gesture of thanks to their services. World tsunami awareness day was celebrated on 5th November .Eloquent speeches highlighted various facets of tsunami. A model was used to demonstrate that a bio-line of mangrove trees in coastal areas can reduce the impacts of tsunami waves. On the occasion of world diabetes day a talk show was organized to highlight the cause, effects and ways of preventing diabetes. Skit on stress management was enacted. Principal motivated the students to exercise regularly and take balanced diet in order to stay healthy.
Students of class visited Institute of Toxicological Research on World Science Day and interacted with the scientists on the topics of benefits of science.

RDSO: Students of class VII have made beautiful articles from used products to celebrate America’s recycle day. Students of class VII have made colourful collages to show the elimination of violence against women. Students of class VII have celebrated World Diabetes Day with great enthusiasm; they have made attractive charts and posters to create awareness about diabetes. Students of class VI celebrated World Science Day for Peace and Development by making sketches and posters of famous scientists. World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims was observed on 20th November by making collages and charts.

RJPM I: The children celebrated the World Tsunami Awareness Day on 5th November in the assembly. They celebrated the World Diabetes Day on the 14th of November, 2016 and displayed the information on the soft board and also discussed about the problems and causes of diabetes. The children in the Pre-Primary Section raised the awareness and also guided the students for following the traffic rules and they made traffic lights using the gems and wafers. The children in the junior section discussed about the awareness about the violence against women and also discussed about the Gender Inequality and Women Empowerment. The children in their assemblies also discussed about the Air Pollution in the city of Lucknow in the Junior Section and in the Senior Section.
RJPM II: Used assembly articles, prepared talk shows and powerpoint presentations on various international days of the month.
RN I: Students of Class XII went for an official trip on 29th November 2016.
RN III: The school garden was maintained by the members of the eco - club. The students took interest in growing the vegetables in the pots. They were excited to see the red tomatoes, spinach and brinjals growing in the pots.
The survey on Air Pollution was conducted among the students. They were told about the increasing air pollution and smog in our cities. A special board was prepared by the Eco Club members on smog to create awareness among the students and the visitors.

Station Road: Students of class ISC had gone to NBRI for the visit of lab, Students of class 11 to CDRI for lab visit. Class I 0 participated in a quiz at IIT Kanpur. They bagged 2nd prize. Juniors had gone to Prem Niwas with food and medicines. Pre primary and primary had gone to zoo on a green walk.
