CMS Environment Coordinators Meeting held on
Thursday, 31 August 2017 at 12:30 PM
Venue: Board Room, CMS Gomti Nagar II Campus

A monthly review meeting of all CMS Environment Coordinators was held on Thursday, 31st August 2017. Mr. Roshan Gandhi Forouhi and Mrs. Farida Vahedi, Head, Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building, chaired the meeting and welcomed all the coordinators as well as the Eco club members (students) of Rajendra Nagar Campus I and Rajendra Nagar Campus II.

Report from Eco Club members of Rajendra Nagar Campus I  & their coordinator:

Mehvish Haque Khan and Yokabid Zehra represented the Eco Club of the campus and shared their report as follows:

They informed that the World Elephant Day and World Lion Day were observed. Poster making competition was organized in junior section and Mask making competition was organized in primary section.  A teacher’s talk was conducted where in funny facts were told about elephants and lions; a short quiz based on the funny facts was conducted in the assembly there after in the Primary Section.

World Honey Bee Day was celebrated. Head gears and masks were prepared by students. The environment coordinator along with the students went to all the classes to spread awareness. The helpers of the school are also encouraged and made aware of the energy saving and are guided to switch off the lights and fans where ever not required. In the same manner, students also switch off the lights whenever not required. A quiz on General Environment Awareness was conducted in the assembly to spread awareness among students of primary section.

Teacher’s Day will be celebrated using eco-friendly material.

Report from Eco Club members of Rajendra Nagar Campus II & their coordinator:

Yashansh Goel and Suyash Tripathi represented the Eco Club of the campus and shared their report as follows:

Honey Bee day was celebrated at the campus on 22nd august 2017. The pre-primary children colored the honey bee posters and the teachers told them about the honey bee and the honey they give. The juniors were sensitized about the honey bees through teachers talk in assembly where the children were asked questions about honey bee.

Orangutan day was also celebrated at the branch where the children were made aware about the orangutan through teachers talk in assembly. 

Introduction of Environment Coordinators Dashboard on IT Portal:

Ms Akansha Bhatia, Portal Coordinator & Technical Trainer, introduced the dashboard to the coordinators and explained through a powerpoint presentation how to use it. The coordinators were happy about it as it would make the submission of report easier for them. The last date for submitting reports will be 25th of the month as it was always. It was suggested by Mrs. Vahedi to create a tab saying Resources where the assembly articles prepared by the Office of Youth Empowerment and Capacity Building can be uploaded.

Email Ids for Environment Coordinators:

All the coordinators were informed to use their generic official email ids for any correspondence from now onwards. They will be able to log in into the dashboard also through these email ids only. The circular for the same was sent to all the principals earlier.

Environmental Days of September-Assembly Articles:

 

Assembly articles prepared by the Office of Youth Empowerment and Capacity Building for the environmental days of September were shared with all the coordinators and they were asked to use them during the assembly periods. The topics of the articles were:

IGBC Seminar on 7th October 2017:

The invitation for IGBC seminar on Green Schools: 7th October 2017: Jaipur was shared with all the coordinators and they were informed that the ones interested can go to Jaipur on their own and the management has decided to give them Special Leave in lieu of that.

Mr. Sagar Suri from CEE:

Mr. Sagar Suri from Centre for Environment Education joined and informed the coordinators about the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Programme through a powerpoint presentation. The last date for submitting the entries was September 10th but on request by all the coordinators he agreed to postpone the last date to October 10th as exams are going to start and then there will be holidays.

Questionnaire on Water Pollution:

As decided in one of the meetings held earlier, it was decided that the annual project for this year will be ‘Water as a Natural Resource and its Conservation’ and Mrs Kavita Shahi, Ms Samra Masud and Mrs Pragati Raizada had volunteered to prepare the questionnaire for the same. They shared their questionnaires and it was projected on the screen for everyone. It will also be shared with everyone through email.

Report from other campuses:

Aliganj Campus I: Quiz contest was held on 5th & 6th August organized by Swayam Siddha, 10th Aug was observed as World Lion Day, 12th Aug as World Elephant Day and 22nd Aug as World Honey bee Day. Paper bags were made by students and movie ‘ Save me’ was shown to the students. Ms. Devika Mathur of CEE visited the campus and discussed with the eco-club members about the Swachaagrah and distributed hand books. Pushpendra Tripathi of class VIII got 2nd prize in Environmental Quiz Contest organized by General Post Office and Sonakshi Gupta got 3rd Prize in Ground water contest organized by Ground Water Department held at Regional Science Center.

Aliganj Campus II: The activities for the month included commemorating days of national and international significance, understanding the duties as community members and building relationships with schools abroad for collaborative learning with a global prospective. Visited Sandeep Nursery, Vrikshabandhan was celebrated, World Lion Day, World Honey Bee Day, World Elephant Day was observed. CEE representative visited to meet the Swachhagrahi Dal. The coordinator informed that the members of the eco club are always full of enthusiasm to take new initiatives and contribute towards the society as global citizens. Students collected review on measures to be taken for conservation of energy and shared the reports with their classmates. A group of students prepared a video on their efforts of saving water and encouraging their friends to do the same.

 

Anand Nagar Campus: Soft board display by junior students to generate awareness about Swachhagrahi or cleanliness drive in which all the dimensions of environment were touched and a presentation by class 8th on different aspects of environmental issues,  like water pollution,  air pollution,  energy conservation  and go green movement were taken up.
They explained the issue, its causes, effects, and solution. There are 30 members from the junior section and 10 from the primary. There are incharges of food, cleanliness and energy in each class or floor who have the responsibility to keep a check on the children.

Asharfabad Campus: Various activities were taken up and students participated actively and enthusiastically. World Lion Day, World Elephant Day, National Honey Bee Day, Rakshabandhan, Independence Day, etc was observed. Children made masks, wrote stories, narrated and enacted on lion, made paintings, wrote slogans, information was given to the students about the habitat prevention of elephants, bookmarks were made, video on honeybees was shown, posters on how one can protect the environment, and posters on ‘My Idea of independence from environmental problems’.

Chowk Campus: In the month of July to celebrate Van Mahotsav, the students of the junior section went to the nearby park in the colony Lajpat Nagar where they planted saplings and took the pledge to take care of those plants till those plants grew into trees. In the month of August on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan, the students gifted plant saplings to their friends and encouraged each other to grow more plants ultimately to save the planet earth. On 5th August 2017 students were taken to ECOBUZZ: an initiative to inspire conservation organized by La Martinere Girls College, Lucknow. Later in the school assembly students shared their experiences with the other students. 29th August was celebrated as International Day Against Nuclear Test where students were informed about intrusion of man-made chemicals in day to day life and their harmful effects on us.

Gomti Nagar Campus I: The students of the campus prepared paper bags and distributed them in the shops near the school. They also encouraged the shopkeepers to use paper and cloth bags instead of polythenes and also asked them to tell their customers to use them as well. The students of the junior section celebrated the elephant day. They made each other aware of the alarming rate at which they are depleting from their natural habitats. A special assembly was conducted for this purpose. About 25 solar panels started functioning on 18th of August. The solar cells used provide 33% efficiency. Average amount of electricity produced on a clear day is about 100 to 210 watts. The students of the junior section arranged for special assemblies on the occasion of the Youth Day. There are many people who place the needs of the helpless before theirs. The World Humanitarian Day is celebrated to appreciate the efforts of such people. The students of the senior sections prepared and displayed charts for the same. The students of the primary section conducted special assemblies to spread awareness regarding the harm that the humans are causing to the bees. Students visited the National Botanical Research Institute on 24th of August. The students were told the importance of plants and were shown the various processes that plants undergo. The students of the senior and junior section celebrated the raksha parv by tying rakhis to the trees.

Gomti Nagar Campus II: Students made Rakhis on Raksha Parv and tied it to trees, special Assembly was conducted on 19th August on the occasion of Honey Bee Day. Students attended EcoBuzz organized by La Martiniere Girls School, cards were made by eco-club member by pencil shavings and dry leaves and flowers.

Indira Nagar Campus: Environment Rally was conducted by the junior section to create awareness on cleanliness, pollution, planting trees, saving energy and water conservation. Children propagated this cause by giving saplings and small plants to the nearby residents and the people on the road. Children explained about saving environment by giving tips to conserve the environment. Rakshaparv was celebrated by tying rakhis to the trees which the children prepared with the waste material. Pre-primary children celebrated “HONEY BEE DAY” in which children were dressed up as honey bee and were being told about the importance of honey bee. LION DAY was celebrated by making masks with the brown envelops by class 1. A new ‘BAL DAL’ (children’s group) was formed for the SWACHHAGRAH (creating a culture of cleanliness) in which primary children made the collages on the theme of “Personal Hygiene”. Dal members try to make the dal active by checking the grooming of their school mates.

Jopling Road Campus: Students prepared eco friendly rakhis in school. The pre primary children tied rakhis to each other and also to the trees as a gesture to protect and respect them. Some rakhis were also tied to the brave Indian soldiers by students who went to the cantonment to do so. Rakhis were sent to Assam for the soldiers of the Indian Army. This is an initiative of Dainik Jagran. World Lions Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the pre primary section which has a close curriculum linkage to their web topic. They prepared masks and enjoyed drawing, colouring and paper tearing and pasting activities based on the topic ‘LION-LEARNING BY DOING!’ Primary section wore headgears of a lion and shared valuable information through an informative Assembly Presentation. On World Elephant Day, a quiz was conducted during assembly and on World Bee Day an informative board was prepared by the students to highlight the importance of bees.

Kanpur Road-Junior Section: Preprimary section has celebrated Green day and Lion day. Children wore green wristbands and ribbons, brought saplings and something green for the lunch. On Lions day, they did craft activity and enacted stories. Junior section has taken up topics like Energy and water conservation, reducing plastic usage, observed World honeybee day in their model classes. Students of 8th grade did projects on the same topics and submitted it in a file or a power point presentation format. Interhouse competition on ‘Best out of Waste’ which was held on 19th August 2017. Eco club comprises of 20 members and currently 9 are working on the Wipro Earthian project and 2 members are working on IGBC competition.

Kanpur Road-Senior Section: Students of eco-club have participated in Sciencetoon competition organized by Swayamsiddha and won the 1st prize. Posters were made and students participated in morning assemblies for cleanliness message. Strict check is going on electrical appliances. Useful items and working pens were taken out from the dustbins.  There has been a strict checking for the lights and other electrical appliances. There has been a satisfactory response from the students and teachers regarding electricity concern. Leaking taps have been detected and the authorities are informed about it.

Mahanagar Campus: World Elephant Day was celebrated in the junior section. Students made posters of elephant elaborating various factors responsible for dwindling numbers of this magnificent animal.
Students of senior wing prepared beautiful rakhis out of simple material available at home like embroidery thread, beads, lace etc. As a part of their SUPW work, students created planters out of old plastic bottles. Students of class two and three presented a special item ‘Ek kadam swachyata ki ore’ to a message on importance of cleanliness and for creating swach bharat by changing our attitude.

RDSO Campus: On 19th August ‘World Honey Bee Day’ was celebrated by the students of junior section. They have made charts, posters and collages showing importance of honey bees in our environment. On 10th August ‘World Lion day’ was celebrated by the students with great enthusiasm. They have made beautiful collages charts and have written slogans to save lions. World Elephant Day was celebrated by the children by making charts and posters.

Rajajipuram Campus I: Rakhis were tied to trees by about 50 students from the age group of 4 years to 13 years to celebrate Tree Protection Festival on  4th August 2017.   20 eco club members from the age group 11 to 12 years had been selected as Dal members for performing various activities of Swachhagraha Project on one of the themes selected by our branch-Waste Management. 12 students from the age group of 8 years to 10 years from primary section planted the saplings. Eco club members from the age group 11 years to 13 years prepared 5 different models based on land pollution. Students prepared a collage and model based on noise pollution. Ayushi Patel and Anushka Trivedi went to Pioneer Montessori School to attend the seminar on Connecting People to Nature, organized by Swayam Siddha organization.   

Rajajipuram Campus II: Primary children celebrated “Raksha ka Parv” by tying Rakhis to their classmates. Special assembly was conducted in which importance of relationship was highlighted where significance of soldiers was told. Junior children brought materials from home and made huge Rakhis and tied them on trees. Various important days such as Lion day, Elephant day and Honey Bee day were observed. On 19th Aug World Humanitarian Day was observed in which people from SPARC India visited and they enlightened the students about ensuring the involvement of different sections of the community in disability sensitization campaigns. Model Class presentation of Class 2 & 3 was based upon the theme ‘Save Earth, Save Environment’ and ‘Child Labour.’ A student of class 7 made a beautiful working model of Rain Water Harvesting.

Rajendra Nagar Campus III: The students from all the sections prepared handmade rakhis as a craft activity. Same rakhis were tied by the parents and the students after the Model Class of Class VIII. The parents and students also pledged that they will take care of the environment and will plant more trees to make our city cleaner and greener. To mark the observation of the World Elephant Day various craft activities were done in the Pre - Primary section and Classes I and II. Children made elephant faces using scrap material like CDs, Black paper, etc in Classes Montessori and Nursery. In Classes I and II a conversation was done where the children were told the significance of the day and were briefed about the numerous challenges faced by the elephants like poaching, habitat loss, exploitation, etc. Later few amazing facts related to elephants were shared using the Interactive White Board. Different Environmental Issues were taken up in different Model Class Presentations. Students also presented a street play “Pahel” in Interfaith at Kanpur Road Auditorium. It was based on environmental issues like Save water, Save Electricity And Zero Food Wastage.

Station Road Campus: In the month of august students of senior section and junior section performed different activities related to environment. They participated in different kind of competitions held at regional Science Center organized by Swayam Siddha in which students from senior section got second prize in Sciencetoon competition. Tree protection was organized in which students from senior section tied rakhi to plants. Second, students from all classes brought plant saplings for planting them in school.
