CMS Environment Coordinators’Meeting held on
Saturday, 30 April 2016 at 12:30PM
Venue: Board Room, 4th Floor, President’s Office, CMS, 11 Station Road.
A monthly review meeting of all CMS Environment Coordinators was held on Saturday, 30th April 2016. Mrs. Farida Vahedi, Head, Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building, chaired the meeting and welcomed all the coordinators as well as the Eco club members (students) of three campuses namely, Rajendra Nagar-II, Rajendra Nagar-III and RDSO Campus. Later Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, President-CMS joined and shared her valuable views and suggestions.
Following are the highlights of the meeting.
- Report from Eco Club members of Rajendra Nagar –II, Rajendra Nagar-III and RDSO Campuses & coordinators on activities and plan of action for the quarter of April-June 2016:
Eco club members of Rajendra Nagar-II campus, Shashank and Simran gave updates about the environment activities conducted in their campus. They have 30-35 members in their eco club. They made their group without forcing anyone but by convincing other students and creating awareness about our environment.
- They make charts and posters and paste it all around their campuses so that everyone can see it and get inspired to do something for our environment.
- They made pots, filled it with water and kept it on the open areas of their campus for sparrows and other birds.
- They celebrated all the International Environment Days of April like World Health Day, World Heritage Day etc.
Eco club members of Rajendra Nagar-III campus:
20 students of the campus started this Eco Club of Rajendra Nagar-III campus with Ms. Sonali Chowdhary.
- They celebrated Raksha Ka Parv, and tied handmade beautiful rakhis to trees and pledged to save them.
- They made pots and planted saplings in it to promote awareness about importance of tree plantation.
- On World Ozone Day, they worked on a project named ‘Best out of Waste’.
- World Food Day was celebrated with joined efforts of the campus and Prithvi Innovations to be food-wise and not to waste food.
- 300 food diaries were bought by the students.
- World Wetland Day was celebrated. Posters were made to emphasize their importance.
- A special assembly was held for ‘Say NO to Polyethylene Bags’.
- ‘Reduce Food Wastage’
- International Forest Day was celebrated to raise awareness about importance of forests. Charts, posters, and multimedia were used to emphasize on the topic.
- Eco club members also helped their coordinator in making Plan of Action and Questionnaire on air Pollution.
- At last they presented a power point presentation of their report.
Eco club members of RDSO campus:
RDSO campus is having about 40-45 members in their Eco Club.
- World Health day was celebrated. Posters were made by the students and later exhibited in the assembly.
- World Heritage Day was celebrated.
- At Science City, they worked on project ‘Cash from Trash’ and made a lamp out of used disposable plastic spoons.
- Issues creating problems in the environment was reported.
- On World Health Day, slogan writing and poster making competition was organized.
- They encourage everyone to close public taps wherever they see them open or contact the concerned person.
- At last they presented a power point presentation of their report.
- Plan of Action for April-June 2016.
- All campuses had submitted their Plan of Action except Aliganj I, Chowk, Mahanagar-I, and Rajendra Nagar-II.
- Coordinators shared that the students are very proactive, come up with brilliant new ideas and help in making Plan of Action.
- Questionnaire on Air Pollution- Signature Campaigns, Anti-Pollution Masks, etc.
- As Mrs. Vahedi had suggested in the last meeting that ‘Questionnaire’ can be really effective and can be used for raising awareness on Air Pollution amongst the people and requested all the coordinators to prepare a questionnaire in consultation with Eco club members, all the campuses except Aliganj I, Anand Nagar, Chowk, Rajajipuram I and Rajendra Nagar II submitted it.
- GN II did the survey as well.
- Station Road campus purchased anti air-pollution masks as suggested by Respected Mr. V.N. Garg, Director-Policy and Operations, CMS.
- Mrs. Vahedi said thet these questionnaires should form the basis of a survey project.
- Planning for jointly organizing the World Environment Day-5th June.
- Mrs. Anupama Johari of Jopling Road campus will be organizing a special program on 5th June.
- Capacity building seminar on environmental issues.
- On 19th June, a training program is organized in which the focus will be on Air Pollution at WUCC, Kanpur Road from 8:30 am to 2 pm.
- Gomti Nagar I shared a video on conserving water.
- Essay Competition by CEE, International Conference on Education on Sustainable Development, and Invitation to join Saevus Natural Capital Olympiad were the topics discussed in which students can participate. Details were shared with the coordinators.
- Kanpur Road campus was felicitated by Prithvi Innovations on 22nd April for their outstanding contribution towards environment.
- Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon congratulated all the coordinators for their hard work and participation in Speech contest organized by TOI. Sucheta Chaurasia of Gomti Nagar won the contest.
- Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon suggested sending assembly articles on Sustainable Development Goals.
- Mr. Kailash Keswani of Aliganj I was awarded as Best Teacher-Green Educator by Saevus Natural Capital Olympiad and by Wipro and CEE in recognition of guiding and motivating students in the Earthian-Paryavaran Mitra Programme-2015
- UPSavesENERGY.COM-an initiative by UPNEDA
- Mrs. Vahedi welcomed Mr. Shantanu, Mr. Arjit and Ms. Falguni from UPSavesEnergy.com
- It works for electricity saving and tracks electrical usage and reduces the consumption.
- Portal: upsavesenergy.com
- On this portal, our campuses can register themselves, post activities and save energy.
- An individual can also register.
- Mr. Shantanu shared the details and benefits of this programme.
- Schools and students should ensure that they use less electricity as compared to previous year.
- Scores will be given on the basis of activities on portal. The automated system will announce the best performer in different categories and UPENDA will reward.
- Coordinators can contact JE’s of their campuses for electricity bills and other details.
- A consultation and training is organized on 4th May from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at GN I auditorium in which coordinators with around 20 students of their campus will go and attend the training. This was suggested by Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon.
