COFAS - empowering the digital generation

The development of computer technology has flourished in recent years and has played a major role in globalisation. Information and computer technology has made significant advances in recent years, owing to the internet. Advances in technology are one of the main reasons that globalisation has escalated in the past decade. In information and communication technology, innovations have become smaller in size, more efficient and often more affordable. Whether for personal use or for business, computer technology has made the world seem a smaller place and assisted in the rise of globalization.

This kind of development has changed our way of life, whether it is at home, at work, at school or at leisure. The internet and the development of digital technology (computer-based technology) in particular, have made the most significant impact in the field of information and communication in the past decade. The internet and computer have had an important role in connecting people and have revolutionised education, business and social lives.

The spectrum of technological change is narrowing exponentially, and as educational institution, it is our unspoken responsibility to not only recognize this wave of great change but also shape the children of today to become the leaders of tomorrow by leading technology change. Today's world is different, vastly different from the one we grew up in. The technologies we take for granted or simply don't understand have become an integral part of the children's identities. These technologies saturate practically every aspect of their daily lives. This digital bombardment is shaping who they are and who they will become. We must realize they live in a different world, and speak a different language. If we ever want to take part in nurturing those who will be the architects of our future, it's up to us to learn that language and step into that world, to allow them to lead us in as much as we must lead them so that we may truly understand the digital generation.

In keeping with the same spirit, the theme of this year's Computer Fair and Seminar (COFAS) is "Empowering the Digital Generation". COFAS which aims at empowering the youth, will let them put their technological prowess and design abilities to test. Here they will compete with each other in various technological events like Website Design, Application Development, Algorithmic Problem Solving and Technical Creativity. This will enable them to widen the horizon of their thoughts and present them with a unique challenge and opportunity across schools and nations. Modern science has been awakened by the continuous and hard efforts of the outstanding scientists. But it is the youth of today who will carry this torch forward and as we have entered the 21st century, it is becoming clear everyday how critical a role technology will play in shaping life on our planet and establishment of the human race as the most advanced species of all times. COFAS is one small step in acknowledgement of the great change that lies ahead and our eagerness and enthusiasm to be prepared to meet it with open arms and hearts.

Dr Jagdish Gandhi & Dr Bharti Gandhi
Founder-Manager & Founder-Director

City Montessori School believes that Education given to children must be concerned with the affairs of the age we live in. Our youth belongs to the world of technology. Freeman Dyson has said “Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life, it is perhaps the greatest of God’s gifts. It is the mother of civilization, of arts and of science.”

Prof Geeta Kingdon
President & Chief Operating Officer

Computing is not about computers anymore, it is about living. Ever since the first personal computers emerged a little over thirty year ago, computer technology has changed education. Steve Jobs has said ‘Computers themselves and software yet to be developed, will revolutionize the way we learn”.

COFAS challenges the students, helping them gain the knowledge and skills necessary to begin...

Roshan Gandhi Forouhi
Director of Strategy

Computer science is the field with the most rapid emergence and development in modern times. Today in-depth familiarity with all aspects of computing is a skill that is as essential and fundamental as basic literacy. It is vital that schools prepare students to be thoroughly digitally literate, with an understanding of how the power of computing should be applied in all aspects of contemporary work and life.

Ms Susmita Basu
Head, Quality Assurance and Innovations Department & Superior Principal

Undoubtedly these words of Bill Gates stand true to the present scenario since technology has touched every aspect of life making it easier, better and different.
