UPASTHANA MANTRA (Prayer for realization of God)

Om udvayam tamasaspariswah pasyanta uttaram. Devam devatra suryam-aganma jyotiruttamam.

The next four Ved mantras when recited thoughtfully and meditated upon in correct perspective, help the praying person experience utmost nearness to the Almighty.

In this the praying person says: O Almighty! I realize you in my heart and perceive the lustre, the splendour. May I, through divine knowledge, attain total emancipation from bondage.

Om udutyam jatavedsam devam vahanti ketavah. Drse viswaya suryam.

God is the source of all light – that of the sun, the moon, the fire and pervades the celestial regions, the earth and the space. God has revealed the Vedas, the divine knowledge. May He inspire us to enlighten ourselves by imbibing the divine knowledge.

Om chitram devanamudagadanikam caksur mitrasya varunasyagneh. Apradyava prthivi antariksam surya atma jagatas tasthusas ca swaha.

God, the pristine source of man’s spiritual strength, may enlighten my intellectual faculties. May I realizeHis powerful presence and feel motivated enough to walk on the path of righteousness to attain the sublime. May I realize Thee in my heart.

Tach chakshur devahitam purastach chhukram uchcharat

Pashyema sharadah shatam jivema sharadah shatam shrinuyama sharadah shatam prabravama sharadah shatam adinah syama sharadah shatam bhuyashcha sharadah shatat.

Thou art Omnipresent, our divine guide and divine benefactor. Through Thy Grace may I continue to have the right perception, throughout my life of a century and retain sense of hearing, power of speech while leading an independent life with a complete control over my faculties. May my life of health and happiness continue beyond 100 years too.

 A PRAYER FOR INSPIRED INTELLECT

Om bhur bhuvah svah

Tat savitur varenyam bhargo devasya dhimahi

Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat.

The praying person, with all his concentration, meditates on the Nirakar Brahma (God Almighty who has no figure and no embodiment) and derives enlightened inspiration to enable himself to destroy sinful thought and action. The soul, ipso facto, after shaking off sins, proceeds towards noble deeds and divinity.

SAMARPANA  MANTRA (TOTAL DEVOTION)

He ishvara dayanidhe! Bhavat-kripayanena japopasanadikarmana dharmarthakamamokshanam sadyah siddhir bhaven nah.

May the Merciful Lord be gracious enough to condescend to the prayer offered heretofore and thus enable me to attain the pursuits of human life – Dharma (righteous duties), artha (acquisition of wealth through rightful means), Kama (fulfillment of desires) and Moksha (emancipation from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth).

NAMASKAR MANTRA (THE FINAL SALUTATIONS)

Om namah shambhavaya cha mayobhavaya cha namah shamkaraya cha mayaskaraya cha namah shivaya cha shivataraya cha.

Thou art the Great Motivator, the great Benefactor, the Serene one and the embodiment of Bliss. I salute Thee and seek Thy Blessings for peace, health and happiness.

Thus having recited the Ved mantras and meditated upon them as a part of the Sandhya both in the morning and in the evening, the praying person feels a spiritual upliftment. Lifting of spirits brings happiness suo motu. The soul experiences this celestial joy day after day.

Should the anger have the better of you; let your spouse or friend lend a helping hand by initiating recitation. The mantra’s melody will make your mood melodious. The Shanti path has the Vedic charm to bring you back from the Hara-kiri path and put you on the path to prosperity of body, mind and spirit. Let us all recite together, in unison again and again: AUM SHANTIH SHANTIH SHANTIH.
