City Montessori School popularly known as CMS was established in the year 1959 by a young Gandhian couple Mr Jagdish Gandhi and Dr (Mrs) Bharti Gandhi who embarked on a mission to provide enriched and quality education to the children.

The greatest hallmark of the school lies in the fact that it started with only 5 children and currently has 20 campuses, all over the city of Lucknow with over 35,000 students. The school caters to the need of the pre-school toddlers to the degree college students . The school has achieved the dignity of being the world's largest city school as recognized by the Guinness book of world records within just four decades.

Besides academic excellence, the school aims at equipping every child with moral values and spiritual awareness. CMS continues to surge ahead to spread the message of universal brotherhood for the betterment of the future generation.

The aims and ideals of the establishment are well encapsulated in the school motto “JAI JAGAT” or Glory be to the World.

A glorious tribute was paid to the institution by presenting Mr. Gandhi, the Key to the city of Georgetown ,Kentucky, USA by the Mayor of the city, Mr Everette Varney, for setting new milestones in the history of education and achieving outstanding results by adopting Quality Circles in education.

Another glorious achievement conferring the Derozio Award to Mr. Jagdish Gandhi by the ICSE Council for his efforts to improve the standard and quality of education .

The UNESCO Peace Prize for Peace education awarded to CMS in 2002 has placed the institution on an even higher pedestal than ever before.
