A Pre-K-12 School That Enrolls the World Judiciary Heads

Lucknow ’s City Montessori School is all set to welcome its delegates to the 9th Conference of the Chief Justices. A mission that began in 2001, the conference has seen about 175 members of the world judiciary from about 50 countries participating in these intervening years. This is no mean task for a big international body to organize, let alone a school in Lucknow . The latest of the Chief Justices Conference is scheduled from 10th to 15th December, 2008 and is expected to host over 250 participants from 81 countries.

Why a school? What do they want to accomplish? Many questions loom large as we examine why a school in Lucknow , India , is so keen to enroll the World Judiciary into its cause. What is their cause?

Being acknowledged as the world’s largest school, a Guinness World Record holder since 1999 and owing to the trust placed upon the school by parents of thousands of students, CMS makes no bones about being the single largest representative on planet earth of the world’s two billion children. In the face of international terrorism, trafficking of children, threat to global environment and potential of wars and nuclear holocaust, children are the worst sufferers. For this reason, they want nothing short of an enforceable international law that protects the rights of world’s children born and yet to be born. They say that while the International Court of Justice exists in The Hague , it has no powers to enforce decisions. For the last 50 years, since its very inception, CMS has pursued a comprehensive programme of Unity & Peace Education which focuses on preparing its students not only as World Citizens but also as World Leaders of tomorrow.
“I asked myself — how could judges affect things?” Dixon said. “How could these children believe that simple human beings, ... who only have a simple responsibility ... could have an impact?”  “I was not the only one to have such doubts. But despite our doubts, we were there. And we exchanged ideas, and it was said that we can change the realities…”

Hon’ble Madam Justice Graciela Dixon, the then Chief Justice of Panama and
President, International Association of Women Judges on the
International Conference of Chief Justices of the World at a meeting of judges in Brooklyn

“The Judiciary must live to its responsibility of being the last hope for mankind and create a new world order built on sound human and moral principles including justice, equality, peace, freedom and social justice. We must be prepared to die for this noble cause for which we are the vanguards.
