नौकरी या व्यवसाय ही ‘आत्मा के विकास’ का सबसे सरल एवं एकमात्र उपाय है!

इस नये युग की सर्वाधिक आवश्यकता अध्यात्म तथा गुणात्मक शिक्षा को सर्वसुलभ बनाने की है!

(1) क्या ‘असाधारण’ व्यक्तियों तथा ‘साधारण व्यक्तियों’ के द्वारा आत्मा के विकास में कोई फर्क है?:-

(अ) हाँ! समाज में कुछ ‘असाधारण’ तथा बिरले लोग ही’ ऋषि-मुनियों तथा महापुरूषों के रूप में विकसित हुए हैं जिन्होंने अपनी आत्मा के विकास के लिए कोई ‘नौकरी या व्यवसाय’ नहीं किया। इन महापुरूषों ने पर्वतों, कन्धराओं, गुफाओं तथा घास-फूस की झोपड़ियों या साधारण परस्थितियो में रहकर तथा समाज में अत्यन्त सादा एवं सरल जीवन जीकर और व्यापक ‘समाज के लिए उपयोगी बनकर’ समाज की महत्ती सेवा की और इस प्रकार अपनी आत्मा का विकास किया।
(ब) किन्तु ‘साधारण व्यक्ति’ केवल मजदूरी, किसानी, नौकरी, उद्योग या व्यवसाय के द्वारा समाज के सुचारू रूप से संचालन में तथा उसके विकास में योगदान कर व ‘समाज के लिए उपयोगी बनकर’ ही अपनी आत्मा का विकास कर सकता है। इसके अतिरिक्त आत्मा के विकास का अन्य कोई उपाय नहीं है।

(2) यदि व्यक्ति नौकरी या व्यवसाय न करें तो अपनी आत्मा का विकास कैसे करें? :-

व्यक्ति यदि नौकरी या व्यवसाय के द्वारा अपनी आजीविका नहीं कमायेगा तो अपने परिवार का भरण-पोषण कैसे करेगा? अपनी स्वयं की कमाई न होने की स्थिति में व्यक्ति या तो भीख मांगेगा या दूसरों की कमाई खायेगा, या चोरी बेईमानी की रोटी खायेगा या आत्महत्या कर लेगा। यह सब पाप है। ऐसी कोई नौकरी या व्यवसाय नहीं करना चाहिए जो आत्मा के विकास में बाधक हों। अतः ईमानदारी और परिश्रम से नौकरी या व्यवसाय करके ‘समाज के लिये उपयोगी बनना’ ही आत्मा के विकास का एकमात्र उपाय है। बच्चों को ऐसी गुणात्मक शिक्षा दें जिससे कि वे सशक्त समाज के निर्माण व विकास में अपना योगदान कर सकें।

(3) क्या हम नौकरी या व्यवसाय करते हुए ही आत्मा का भी विकास कर सकते है। :-

हाँ! प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को अपनी आजीविका ईमानदारी से कमाने के लिए कोई न कोई छोटे से छोटा या बड़ा अपना उद्योग, व्यवसाय, नौकरी या मेहनत मजदूरी करना, अखबार बेचना, जूतों में पालिश करना, ठेेला लगाना, कुली का कार्य करना, कमजोर बच्चों को ट्यूशन पढ़ाना, रिक्शा चलाना आदि-आदि कोई न कोई कार्य अवश्य करना चाहिये। दूसरों की कमाई खाने या झूठ और पाप की कमाई खाने से हमारी आत्मा कमजोर होती है। जबकि छोटे से छोटा परिश्रम व ईमानदारी से कमाया हुआ एक पैसा भी हमारी आत्मा के विकास में सहायक होता है।

(4) क्या नौकरी द्वारा आजीविका कमाना परमात्मा द्वारा निर्मित समाज की सेवा का साधन हैं? :-

हाँ! अनेक लोग पवित्र सेवा भावना से सरकारी, प्राइवेट या समाज सेवी संस्थाओं में नौकरियाँ करते हैं या किसानी, मेहनत-मजदूरी का कोई कार्य करते हैं। जैसे- खेतीबाड़ी, शिक्षा, न्यायिक, प्रशासनिक, सफाई, यातायात, मीडिया, चिकित्सा, रेलवे, पुलिस, सेना, बैकिंग, जल संस्थान, बिजली, सड़क, निर्माण आदि विभागों में कार्यरत रहते हुए जनता को अनेक प्रकार की जन सुविधायें उपलब्ध कराते हैं और समाज का संचालन एवं सुचारू व्यवस्था बनाने में अपना योगदान करते हैं। किन्तु जो व्यक्ति अपने कार्यों को जनहित की पवित्र सेवाभावना से न करके निपट अपनी आजीविका कमाने की भावना से करते हैं वे स्वयं ही अपनी आत्मा का विनाश कर लेते हैं।

(5) क्या उद्योग या व्यवसाय द्वारा आजीविका कमाना समाज की सेवा का साधन है? :-

हाँ! एक उद्योगपति पवित्र मन से समाज के लिये उपयोगी वस्तुओं जैसे कपड़े का निर्माण करके या एक व्यवसायी आम लोगों को दैनिक उपयोग की वस्तुऐं जैसे जनरल मर्चेन्ट, दवाईयाँ स्टेशनरी आदि को जहाँ बनती है वहाँ से एकत्रित करके उनके निवास के आसपास उपलब्ध कराके जन सुविधायें प्रदान करते हैं। उदाहरण के लिए एक छोटी सी किराने की दुकान करने वाला अन्य अनेक सामानों के साथ एक छोटी सी सुई भी अपनी दुकान में रखता है। यदि वह ऐसा न करता तो हमें एक सुई को भी खरीदने के लिए अपने नगर से काफी दूर स्थित दूसरे नगर में जहाँ सुई की फैक्टरी स्थित है वहाँ जाना पड़ता। यदि फैक्ट्री कपड़ा न बनाये तो समाज की क्या स्थिति होगी?

(6) क्या नौकरी या व्यवसाय द्वारा आजीविका कमाने वाले सम्मान के पात्र हैं? :-

हाँ! परिश्रम, ईमानदारी व जनसेवा की भावना से मजदूरी, मेहनत, नौकरी, व्यवसाय या उद्योगों के द्वारा आजीविका कमाने वाले व्यक्ति समाज के सुचारू रूप से संचालन में व इसकी व्यवस्था बनाने में तथा इसके विकास में सहायक हैं। अतः ऐसे सभी व्यक्ति समाज के लिये श्रद्धा एवं सम्मान के पात्र हंै! अन्य कोई नहीं।

(7) मनुष्य उहापोह, अनिश्चय एवं संशय की स्थिति मेें क्यों है? :-

आज मनुष्य उहापोह, अनिश्चय एवं संशय की स्थिति में रह रहा है। और निरन्तर यह प्रश्न हर व्यक्ति को अंदर से सदैव परेशान करता रहता है कि क्या नौकरी, उद्योग या व्यवसाय हमारी आत्मा के विकास मंे सहायक है या बाधक है? परमात्मा ने मनुष्य को स्वतंत्र इच्छा शक्ति दी है। वह चाहे तो प्रभु की प्रसन्नता के लिए जन सेवा के पवित्र उद्देश्य से अपनी आजीविका का उपार्जन मजदूरी, किसानी, नौकरी उद्योग या व्यवसाय के द्वारा करके ‘अपनी आत्मा का विकास करले’ या फिर चाहे तो ‘जनसेवा की पवित्र भावना से रहित’ केवल अपनी आजीविका कमाने के लिए मजदूरी, किसानी, नौकरी या व्यवसाय करके अपनी आत्मा का विनाश कर ले?

(8) क्या अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति अब्राहम लिंकन, संत रैदास, संत कबीर, डा0 राधाकृष्णन अपनी आत्मा का विकास कर सके? :-

हाँ! अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति अब्राहम लिंकन ने नाव चलाकर, जूतों पर पालिश करके एवं अखबार बेचकर व रद्दी की दुकान पर नौकरी करके ईमानदारी से अपनी आजीविका कमाई और अपनी आत्मा को विकसित किया। ईमानदारी और अति कठोर परिश्रम से अपनी आजीविका कमाते हुए समाज सेवा के अति महत्वपूर्ण कार्य को करके वे अमेरिका जैसे बड़े देश के सर्वोच्च राष्ट्रपति के पद पर आसीन हुए और गुलामी प्रथा को समूल नष्ट किया, । रैदास जूते बनाकर अपनी आजीविका चलाने वाले एक व्यवसायी थे। पूरे मनोयोग एवं अति परिश्रम से जूते बनाते समय उनकी भावना यह रहती थी कि जो भी उनका जूता खरीदे, उसे जूता पहनकर किसी भी प्रकार की तकलीफ न हो तथा जूता आरामदेय हो। उनकी इस पवित्र भावना के कारण ही स्वयं भगवान की कृपा से उन्हें संत रैदास की उपाधि मिली। कबीर एक जुलाहे थे। वह अपनी आजीविका कमाने के लिए कपड़ा बुनने का कार्य बड़ी ही लगन तथा सेवा भाव से करते थे। उन्हांेने अपने व्यवसाय के द्वारा ही आत्मा का विकास किया और संत कहलाये। राष्ट्रपति डा0 राधाकृष्णन एक शिक्षक की नौकरी करके अपनी आजीविका कमाते थे। उन्होंने एक आदर्श शिक्षक का आचरण करते हुए अपनी आत्मा का विकास किया।

The start of the academic session is an exciting time of progression to a new class, new teachers, new friends, new learning, and new responsibilities. The start of the academic year is also the perfect time to set personal goals. As the session gets underway, studies will intensify: half-yearly examinations will be upon you before you know it, closely followed by final exams. If you have any goals outside of your academic curriculum, therefore, now is your crucial opportunity to formulate your plans while you have relatively more free time and headspace.

Use this time to think about some of the extra-curricular pursuits you can follow both at school and beyond to develop your mind, capacities, skills, talents, and leadership. These do not have to be grand ambitions that would occupy lots of time at the expense of your studies. In your personal life and at home, for example, consider taking up a mind-enriching pastime: perhaps you might set a personal target of reading two books each month, or reading a newspaper every day. Reading fiction improves your analytical abilities and language skills, and becomes thoroughly enjoyable once you develop the habit; reading non-fiction vastly expands your knowledge and horizons; and keeping abreast of current affairs is vital for becoming an informed, engaged citizen with a solid understanding of the world and your role in it.

You can also execute ideas within school. Consider starting a new club with some friends: it can be based on a topic of interest, such as a Philosophy Discussion Society, or something more practical such as a Debating Club. If you are not ready to start something like that, then you could join an already-existing extra-curricular activity in school which you had not previously thought of. You can also set personal targets: you might aim to achieve a certain milestone in a sport, or a particular grade on a musical instrument.

The possibilities for self-improvement are endless, but if you do not think about them now then it will be easy to lose the opportunities for another year. Carpe diem: seize the day!

TEACHER WITH A VISION

Shipra Upadhyay teaches English at CMS Aliganj Campus I. She stands out as a fine example of one who genuinely inspires the students and makes great achievements possible.

Our team interviewed her and this is what she had to say:

Q1. For how many years have you been teaching in CMS?
Ans. I have been teaching at CMS for the past ten years.

Q2. What subjects are you teaching?
Ans. I teach English in Junior and Senior sections (ICSE).

Q3. What other activities have you been involved with at CMS?
Ans. I have been fortunate to have participated in various activities of the institution. I have written scripts for the World Parliament and the World Unity Prayer, conceptualized and executed special items for the divine conferences, recorded radio plays to spread awareness, helped organize trainings in Disaster Risk Reduction with like-minded NGOs.

Q4. Please elaborate on your role in CMS’ improving standard of education?
Ans. My students have won laurels at international podiums, in events as varied as debates, mime, radio play writing & acting and Power Point presentations. As a teacher I have experimented with a number of teaching techniques in my own classes leading to stimulating teaching learning sessions where both of us have grown. Along with my students I have come up with the Learning Pals Teaching Technique which helped me bring out the best in my students leading to the best average grade percent of my students amidst all the sections of Class X in my school.

Q5. Have you represented your country and CMS in any foreign land?
Ans. I represented CMS and India at the International Mathematics Olympiad in South Korea in the year 2014.

Q6. What are your views regarding the Model United Nations (MUN) and your role in it?
Ans. I have been the MUN and IAYP coordinator for the campus for the last three years. MUNs are a very powerful medium of generating awareness and a sense of belonging amongst young people. What do we need today more than sensitive young people who would shoulder the burden of their brethren and relieve them of their ailments? The MUNs also provide interactive platforms for the students to practice their oratory and consultative skills imbuing them with confidence and the ability to solve the problems of the world.

Q7. What do you feel about the CMS pattern of education?
Ans. The CMS pattern of education is intensive, student oriented and gives in-depth knowledge of the subjects. The best part is that ‘children’ always are at the centre of any educational endeavour.

Q8. How are you involved with the JYEP? How does it help the students in their all-round development?
Ans. I am also the JYEP coordinator. Under the aegis of this programme students of classes IX, X and XI teach their juniors from classes VI-VIII respectively. On becoming a part of the Junior Youth group the students join an endeavour that gives them a voice in the society. These students are enhancing their powers of expression, sharpening their spiritual perception and are being encouraged to analyse the constructive and destructive forces of the society.

Q9. What is your message for other teachers and colleagues?
Ans. To my fellow teachers I would like to say, “We are blessed for we hold the destiny of the world in our hands. Do remember that the expectations and perceptions we project on our students is what they would ultimately become; hence stay positive, think of the betterment of the world and believe in the immense capabilities of your students, and believe me you will see a reflection of your beliefs in the world around.”
