"Without mathematics, there's nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers."

With these words of Shakuntala Devi, I congratulate Gomti Nagar Campus I of City Montessori School for organizing another sequel of a meaningful event like the 8th International Young Mathematicians' Convention, 2018.

Mathematics as an expression of the human mind reflects the active will, the contemplative reason and the desire for aesthetic perfection. Its basic elements are logic and intuition, analysis and construction, generality and individuality. Besides creating and recreating an aware younger generation, it instills a new sense of vigour and vitality into them. "For the things of this world cannot be known without a knowledge of Mathematics." (Roger Bacon)

To most people, modern mathematics is an unknown territory. Its borders are protected by dense thickets of technical terms. We, here at CMS, realize that the world of modern mathematics is rich with vivid images and proactive ideas. With a multitude of significant events like Numeric Jazz, Calculatia, Solve-a-thon and Mathmania, the Convention aims at breaking down the mass of indecipherable equations and simplifies incomprehensible concepts. The world today is bustling with information and technology and at such times Mathematics is the door and key to a successful life in this world.

Maths is a great motivator for all human beings as it begins with a zero and goes on till infinity. I appreciate the relentless efforts of Ms Abha Anant, Principal, CMS, Gomti Nagar campus I and her resolute staff members for motivating the younger generation through the Convention and making this event a stupendous success year after year.
Best wishes

Mrs. Susmita Basu
