“CMS : A journey
not a destination” – Shruti Kapoor
If there
is a way in which a person can equip himself for the future
it is not money or material assets but a good
character. We spend a good deal of our time during our
formative years in school and hence undoubtedly school plays
a vital role in the development of character.
Despite my relatively short sojourn
at CMS, its principles have not failed to impress upon me
the true purpose of my life in this world. The motto of Jai
Jagat, recited almost mechanically
as a greeting, somehow went deeper in our hearts each
time we mouthed the words. In retrospect I realise that the
World Peace Prayer, the All Religion Prayer, the
‘sessions’ of the World Parliament and many other things
reverberated this motto. We saw this being put into action
in the form of CISV camps, the international fiestas and
competitions and exchange of delegates.
Being a foreigner in another land
can be a daunting experience. However, the values that I
gained at CMS served me in good stead in this respect. I was
able not only to appreciate foreign cultures and the
differences, but was also proud to be an Indian. I am
comfortable with my identity and understand myself, and this
understanding serves me as a hinge in understanding
instead of judging them.
If there is anything that can
account for my well-adjusted personality in such a foreign
environment, it is the outlook that I developed at CMS. As I
try to pen my thoughts, the vision of a rotating globe,
encircled by children of diverse origins hand in hand,
floats to my mind. The various floats, all with the same
theme of unity and “Vasudhav Kutumbakum” instilled in us
a personal desire for a truly united world. When I listen to
the news everyday a secret prayer of “May Peace
Prevail on Earth” crosses my heart. It might be called a
mere wishful thinking but with the efforts of people around
the world it will be a reality someday.
It is difficult to verbalise the
experience we call school. More so for a person whose mother
is a teacher in CMS, and learning truly begins at home in
all respects. As I try to recall my days at CMS, the morning
assembly, the ‘thought for the day’ on the blackboard,
the momentous speeches, the concerned teachers, the teacher
guardian visits, the workshops, quizzes and competitions
flash past my mind. All these and many more experiences make
schooling at CMS a unique experience.
There
is little I can do in way of describing my experience fully,
much less in expressing my gratitude towards the education I
have received. I congratulate CMS on its successful journey.
No awards other than its current strength of students and
their achievements can be landmarks on this journey, and it
has already set its own standards in this respect.
