CMS Environment Coordinators Meeting held on

Venue: Board Room, CMS Gomti Nagar II Campus

A monthly review meeting of all CMS Environment Coordinators was held on Thursday, 30th November2017. Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, Mr. Roshan Gandhi Forouhi and Mrs. Farida Vahedi, Head, Youth Empowerment & Capacity Building, chaired the meeting and welcomed all the coordinators as well as the Eco club members (students) of Aliganj I and Station Road.

 

Report from Eco Club members of  Station Road & their coordinator:

Ananya Tripathi and Aditya Bajpai represented the Eco Club of the campus and shared their report as follows:

No litter week was observed in junior section and talk on global warming in seniors. Pre-primary section showed in their model class about the importance of trees through placards. Poster making competition was organized on Swachch Bharat by eco club members of junior section. Children displayed on the stage different posters depicting the importance of trees. They stressed on say no to plastics by giving thank you cards of handmade paper. Next month, they will be sensitizing helpers of each floor about keeping their floor as no wastage area, for water and light etc.

Aryan Khatri, Mridul Yadav and Shaunak Sakhuja represented the Eco Club of the campus and shared the report of their monthly activities. The details are still awaited.

Report from other campuses:

Aliganj Campus II: The activities for the month included commemorating days of national and international significance, understanding the duties as community members and building relationships with schools abroad for collaborative learning with a global prospective. Students interacted with school from Kenya and Pakistan and shared their views about the role they can play to save the environment as global citizens. Students carried out an awareness campaign to request everyone to use the dustbin and not to litter on the floor. Students pledged not to be a bystander and check anyone who is throwing garbage on floor. Students from junior section presented a skit on personal hygiene and encouraged the students to maintain healthy living by keeping themselves clean. Students from junior section went to the primary section and spoke to students about personal hygiene and cleanliness. They also distributed class norms to be followed for keeping classroom clean. Students observed the toilets for cleanliness. They spoke to the other students about using toilet properly and following basic etiquettes.

Anand Nagar Campus: International Days like World Television Day, World Toilet Day and International day of Tolerance were observed. A soft board display on cleanliness was put up by the students of junior classes. Issues related to sanitation, hands washing etc were highlighted. World Toilet Day (WTD) is an official United Nations international observance day that shines a light on the global sanitation crisis. Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow Day was celebrated by the Pre-Primary section wherein the little ones reported to school in yellow attires and with teachers conducting activities associated with yellow colour.

Asharfabad Campus: The month saw a saddening event- the smog menace in Delhi which also affected the air in Lucknow. The environmentally conscious eco buddies, realizing their responsibility towards the environment, undertook various measures to spread awareness. Slogans were written and displayed on ‘My idea of reducing air pollution’. Letters were sent to the District Magistrate to check air pollution, an initiative in collaboration with ‘Dainik Jagran’ newspaper. Children shared their concern with the principal about the burning of dried leaves in the nearby plot. Letter written and signed by the students was sent to the Municipal Corporation. Group Discussion was organized on ‘Gender Inequality’. Posters were made on International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.

Chowk Campus: Students were asked to make working model on Natural Disasters and their effect on Environment in which major one is Volcanic Eruption. Many students made working models of Volcanic Eruption and its effect on our Air quality. Students made models on how to harness energy from nature. Most of them have taken wind as a major source of energy to produce Electrical Energy. Students took pledge to keep the nation clean and supported ‘SWACHCH BHARAT ABHIYAAN'. Students pledged that they will not litter and if someone else liters in front of them, they will check them and request them to support cleanliness around them.

Gomti Nagar Campus I: An Astronomy Workshop was held from 2nd November to 4th November for the students of Junior Section where they saw moons and stars and learned to make rockets and comets. A cleanliness drive was done by the students of class 1 to wake up the senior students and tell them to see their surroundings and clean it. A special assembly was held and pledge was taken for YRE litter less campaign to evoke the students about their environment and encourage them to care for it. A visit to Akanksha School was done by the Primary students where they had a wonderful time with the children studying there and they shared their experience with each other. The tiny tots of class Nursery visited a slum and shared their stationary and other things with them and understood the actual joy of sharing and caring. Children come closer to Nature when curriculum is also attached to it. Thus, class 6 children brought different varieties of leaves& learnt their structure. The Pre Primary Section observed World Toilet day on 20th November, in which the children were sensitized with the importance of cleanliness and why using a proper washroom is imperative to reach the goal of “Swachh Bharat”. The international Children’s day falls on November 20. This year the day was celebrated by taking few sections of the Nursery class to a field trip to the Botanical Gardens to bring them close to nature. On 21st November, some students got an opportunity to speak to the Municipal Additional Commissioner and asked him about the Swachhta App and discussed about other aspects of cleanliness.

Gomti Nagar Campus II: Cleanliness drive was conducted by Senior and junior section students at Ghila ghat organized by Prithvi Innovations. A powerpoint presentation of the same was showed in the meeting. Visit to Sparc India, a school for potential advancement and restoration of confidence was organized. Junior section students have put soft board to show things which can be Recycle Reduce Reuse.

Indira Nagar: No Report received.

Jopling Road Campus: World Parliament on International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development was organized. The students of Junior Section presented an informative World Parliament on the following agenda to highlight the importance of sustainable tourism:
1) Inclusive and sustainable economic growth (SDGs 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 17)
2) Social Inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction (SDGs 1, 3, 4, 5, 8)
3) Resource Efficiency, environmental protection and climate change (SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15)
4) Cultural values, diversity and heritage (SDGs 8, 11, 12)
5) Mutual understanding, peace and security (SDGs4, 16).
An Exhibition displaying entries from school India and abroad were displayed. India symbolizes unity in diversity due to its rich and varied cultured heritage. Folk dances represent the pulse and rhythm of the common people at the grass root level. The folk dances such as garba, Bihu, Gidda, Kalbelia were presented & tips for a responsible traveler were shared with everyone. The messages were displayed through placards. Students of Class VIII shared the causes and impact of air pollution. A video presentation by Mridul Rathi and Ashmit Singh of Class VIII won the first prize in the Young Reporters for Environment Contest. The video aims for bringing about a behavioral in the attitude of the common people. Energy monitors of the campus ensure that extra lights and bulbs are switched off when not in use. Students will be participating in the International Environment Olympiad.

Kanpur Road Campus: A team of five students along with the teacher Kavita S. Shahi went to Katernia Ghat as they were the winner of 2016Earthian award. It was a bio cultural camp in which the children learned a lot.

Mahanagar Campus: Various environment based themes were taken up for model class presentations in junior and primary wings. Students presented skits, power point presentations and group discussion on the topics like global warming, carbon footprints, swachch bharat, clean Ganga and save Ganga etc. Students and parents were made aware about of the alarming rise in particulate matter in cities causing untimely haze and hazardous smog. They demonstrated the working of PM 2.5 Air Quality Index to elucidate on this point during model class presentation. Students of junior wing prepared cloth bags from old used clothes for their anti polythene drive. Students of class ninth prepared paper bags from old news papers. Devansh Tiwari of class ninth got first prize in best photograph category in junior group in young environment reporter competition organized by SYAN in partnership with CEE.

RDSO Campus: Students of pre-primary celebrated World Recycles Day with great enthusiasm. They made paper bags from left over papers and charts. Junior children celebrated International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in Wars and Conflicts by making beautiful posters and banners.

Rajajipuram Campus I: Workshop on bio-energy, environment protection and climate change was organized by Bio-energy Development board team in the assembly on 16th November, 17. Eco club members visited Regional Science City. Students promised to spread the message of using solar panels, CNG, LPG gases and LED bulbs. World Toilet Day was observed in the assembly by pre primary section students on 18th November, 17. Students prepared charts and collag eon Waste management, Conservation of energy, Global Action Day and Wildlife conservation. Eco club members prepared a model on Wildlife conservation.

Rajajipuram Campus II: National Recycling Week was observed. Primary section conducted various activities in which 'Best out of Waste 'was the theme. Children actively participated and made beautiful flower pots from old plastic bottles. Children made paper bags from old newspapers. Eco - club members made beautiful board on the topic ' Save Girl Child.' presentation was also shown. Different class activities were conducted in pre primary section on the topic 'Save environment.' Videos related to it was shown, children did coloring activity. Special assembly was conducted by the teachers.

Rajendra Nagar Campus I: Special Assembly was conducted where students discussed about the importance of science on World Science Day. Special Assembly was conducted where students were guided to take care of the elders and respect them. Eco club members are planning for making charts for the International Environment Olympiad. All the office bearers and staff members take care to save electricity. Class IV employees are asked to save water.

Rajendra Nagar Campus II: National Saevus Eco Achievers Quiz (Nature and Wildlife) on 5th November, World Science Day for Peace and Development on 10th November and World Toilet Day on 19th November were observed.

Rajendra Nagar Campus III: National Brush Day was observed in the Pre-Primary section to emphasize the importance of brushing for two minutes, twice a day, every day. The students were told about cavity, the importance of brushing the teeth and also how to brush the teeth. The children used the toothbrush which they kept in their Hygiene Kit for brushing the teeth. The morning assembly was also themed on National Brush Day where the children learned the rhyme 'Brush, brush, brush your teeth'. The children were also told to spread the awareness among their friends and neighbours about the same. The activities held helped to reinforce the importance of children’s oral health and promote good tooth-brushing habits

Mahanagar Campus shared the information about the movie which they are making for the Film Festival. The theme of the movie is based on Deforestation.
