| Introduction |
|
Like previous years, this year also City Montessori School (CMS), Lucknow, India successfully organized the 12th Commonwealth Day Celebrations 2011 on 16 March 2011 at CMS Gomti Nagar Campus. CMS also held a Commonwealth Youth Conference and a Poster Making Competition on the theme 'Women as Agents of Change' to mark the CMS Commonwealth Day 2011. The theme 'Women as Agents of Change' means that by investing in women and girls, we can accelerate social, economic and political progress. Women and girls make up over half of the world's population. In the Commonwealth, that's over one billion people. By educating them, giving them accessible health care and making sure they are treated fairly and have the same opportunities and protection as men and boys, we can go a long way towards addressing the many problems of the world. |

| The Proceedings |

 |
The proceedings of the day were commenced by Master Siddhant Kohli, student of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus who gave a brief introduction to evolution and objectives of commonwealth organization. The proceedings were very nicely and ineffably conducted by this brightest student of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus. He kept the audience amused with inspiring comments about every item being presented before parents and students. The speaker asked the members of audience to rise up for rendition of CMS School Prayer. He then led the CMS School Prayer and everyone presented in the audience joined him in recitation of the prayer. |

| Welcome of the Chief Guest |
|
Dr Jagdish Gandhi, Founder, CMS and Ms Manjit Batra, Principal, CMS Gomti Nagar Campus, Lucknow, India as Convener of Conference and Principal of the campus extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Mr Anil Kumar Sagar, IAS, District Magistrate, Lucknow- Uttar Pradesh, India.
Ms Batra briefly touched upon the objective of commonwealth nations to garner cooperation among its citizens who constitute a population of two billion people, to develop collaborative human societies. Thereafter, the message from Her Majesty The Queen, Head of the Commonwealth was read out to the audience by Ms Batra. Her Majesty The Queen, made an important mention in her message that commonwealth recognizes that the best forms of innovation are those that unite, and help build resilient partnership and better societies as a whole. |

| Offering all religion prayer |
|

Offering all religion prayer in CMS traditional manner was done superbly by Primary Section children of CMS. A group of music teachers sang different prayer songs, in a sequential order. To melody of the songs, groups of children representing as Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Bahais, Sikhs and Christians performed gracefully their ritual of worshiping Almighty God in their unique manners. Further oneness of God, though worshipped in different forms, was excellently signified by the group of teachers of City Montessori School as they mellifluously sang the song and culminated the all religion prayer. On conclusion of all religion prayer, a group of cute girls of primary section performed a scintillating prayer dance. They in sparkling white costumes danced and adopted various meditating postures to the tune of their song. |

| Introduction of the Chief Guest |
|
Dr Jagdish Gandhi, Founder-Manager, City Montessori School, Lucknow, India introduced the chief guest to the audience. A brief resume of Chief Guest, Mr Anil Kumar Sagar, IAS, District Magistrate, Lucknow- Uttar Pradesh, India was given by Dr Jagdish Gandhi to the audience. Dr Gandhi highlighted his versatile academic achievements and various distinguished appointments held by him during his illustrious career. |

| Lighting the lamp and other proceedings |
|

It was now the turn of Pre-Primary section children to come on the stage to delight the audience with an item exhibiting their patriotism. Chief Guest Mr Anil Kumar Sagar was ushered on the stage and he did the honour of lighting the lamp as the song, "May this light spread afar all over the world…." was being sung melodiously by a teacher. Portrait of Head of Commonwealth Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II was garlanded by him amidst loud cheers.

This was followed by The world peace prayer presented by the students of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus in a grand and spectacular manner. The children of the school campus, as crusaders of world peace, performed a fabulous World Peace Prayer. A child representing a world citizen, first prayed for one world, one human race and establishment of peace and goodwill on earth. A large group of children holding aloft national flags of various countries and placards displaying a dove, a symbol of love and peace, joined the world citizen in praying for peace. |

| Commonwealth Song |
|

|
Commonwealth Song, encompassing the theme of 'Women as Agents of Change' was spiritedly presented by the school choir to the accompaniment of vocal and music support given by the music teachers. Dr Gandhi complimented the team of music teachers for composing the song so brilliantly. A beautiful dance item was performed by Class II Students of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus.

| Commonwealth Youth Conference |
|
A group of children of Class XI participated in a rivetting group discussion on the theme – 'Women as Agents of Change'. The participants delved deep on the theme. Core issues like Education to every girl, Girls must grow up in a safe home with good food, clean water and access to health clinic, Learning the skills of knowledge to earn her own income were discussed threadbare by the eloquent participants. |

| Exhibition of Posters |
|
An Exhibition of Poster Making competition was also displayed at the auditorium. The children transformed their creative ideas through these nicely made posters and reflected their constructive imaginations highlighting the various aspects based on the theme 'Women as Agents of Change'. |

| Address by the Chief Guest |
|

|
Chief Guest, Mr Anil Kumar Sagar, IAS, District Magistrate, Lucknow- Uttar Pradesh, India expressed his happiness to be present amongst us all on the auspicious occasion. In his speech he greatly valued the way that the City Montessori School celebrates Commonwealth Day, and specifically how it turns its attention to a new theme with each new year proposed by Commonwealth Secretariat, London. He said that time has arrived to empower women as key agents of change. When women have access to education, capital and health care, they not only improve the well-being of their own families but also the stability of their communities. Based on a large body of research from a number of countries, the World Bank concluded that 'Educating women is possibly the highest-return investment that a country can make'. |

Dr Jagdish Gandhi, Founder-Manager, City Montessori School, Lucknow, India extended his congratulations to all the children who participated and performed outstandingly well in various activities of the day. In his speech Dr Gandhi quoted that 'securing peace and social progress and the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedom require the active participation, equality and development of women; and to acknowledge the contribution of women for the strengthening of international peace and security'. He emphasizes that 'Educational institutions can play a significant role in creating an enabling environment to ensure women access to education, health, development, rights and governance'. Dr Gandhi congratulated all the winners of poster making competition. He admired the spirits of all the students who participated in the competition and made it a grand success. He admired the high spirit of students despite their pre-occupation with final exams. |
