Once in my dream, I was transported to the year 2500

- Varija Raj, VIII
When the weather is pleasant and I am not too tired of my daily work and am in my bed at night, dreams never leave me alone. The same happened last night too. I took a peep into the world’s future; five centuries ahead into the year 2500.
The world and the entire surroundings were quite changed. Advancement of science and technology had radically changed the human lifestyle.
House keepers and the servants were the things of the past. Robots were doing all household work. I left my dream machine in which I had been sleeping and went to another cabin wherein a carpet was laid. There, I got a button pushed and the carpet automatically rolled off and a bathroom appeared. I took a bath and the bathroom vanished. Through remote control, I commanded the robot to bring refreshment which, within minutes served the eatables on the dining table.
I sat on my computer and switched on the internet. E-news informed me of all important daily events of locality, country and worldwide. Road accidents had become the incidents of the past. Roads were so wide and well maintained, and anti-colliding system in vehicles was so effective, that no accidents took place anywhere. Air traffic was in common use, thousands of kilometres of journey was possible with super-sonic speed. Multi storied buildings were common. They were like mini towns having their own power generating system, hospitals, schools, banks, recreation halls and shopping malls.
Cars, buses and motorcycles did not use petrol or diesel. Insead, they used hydrogen and uranium as fuel. No carbon and smoke was emitted by them. Traffic pollution was thus controlled with advanced fuel technology. Batteries powered with solar energy were in common use.
The earth’s atmosphere was full of artificial satellites making telecommunication very effective through telephones, T.V. channels and internet connections. Powerful transmitters emitted such strong waves that no corner of the earth was unreachable to them. Human body, however, was adversely affected by those waves. Neurological, cardiac and digestive problems were common. It had become almost impossible to keep ourselves away from the electro-magnetic field. The average age of man had decreased to 40 years.
Nature had become the most pitiable victim of the advancement. Trees had almost disappeared. Forests had been cut down due to the necessity of housing area. Water falls and rivers had dried. Canal system was used. Many animals and birds had become extinct.
Thus, as the advanced life had its brighter side, it also had a darker aspect. While, on one hand, we had all the luxuries of science, on the other hand we had their adverse effects on the human body and environment. Suddenly, everything began to get dull until it almost disappeared and I opened my eyes. It was early in the morning. And of course, it was the year 2004, my present world. I realised that as of now, the year 2500 was just a dream and we had still time if we wanted to make it appear different.

Mind reader for a day

- Insha Naureen, VIII B
Once I was traveling to Ranchi with my parents, brother and grandmother by bus. At night everyone slept, except me. I went to my grandmother and asked her to tell me a story. She told me a fairytale and went to sleep. I lay on my seat thinking about fairies.
Suddenly, I saw some smoke coming inside though the window. Slowly, the smoke transformed into a beautiful fairy. I was surprised and stood up dumbfounded, my month wide open. The fairy said, "Don't be afraid my child. I am a fairy and my name is Rosina. I love children and travel around the world at night, making sure every child is asleep. Since you are the only child to whom I am visible, you're special to me. Ask for any wish your heart desires, and it shall be yours." I couldn't believe my eyes (and ears!) and kept staring at her. She was quite irritated and said, " Come on, be quick otherwise. I'm leaving." I asked her to stop and thought what I should ask for. It was my long time wish to be able to read others' thoughts and know what's going on in their mind. So, I asked for a magic power that would enable me to read others thoughts. Rosina was startled and said, "Your wish is granted but it will be with you for one week only. So make sure you use it wisely." She waved a magic want in the air and disappeared in the form of smoke.
The next day, I tried to test my magical power. My first look was at my mother. I come to know that she had purchased a new video game for me and was thinking about it. I went up to her and said, "Mummy please give me my new video game." My mother replied, "Actually, I wanted to give you a surprise. Now that you are aware of it, take it." I could notice the sadness on her face. Anyway, I went and sat near my father. As he is a doctor, he was busy thinking about his patient. I asked him, "Papa, what disease is your patient suffering from?" He was annoyed and said, "What do you have to do with this and how do you know about my patient?" I ran away without uttering a word. I stopped near an old man. I discovered he was thinking about his son who had committed suicide as he failed in his Board Examination. Out of my innocence, I asked him, "What percent marks did your son get?" He looked at me angrily and said, "That's none of your business." My innocence had hurt him and added fuel to the fire.
The day passed on like this with my stupid questions hurting everyone. Forgiving myself was a hard nut to crack. I was fed up with the magical power. It was getting on my nerves. At night again Rosina (the fairy) come and asked me, "How was your first magical day, my child? I was happy to see her and replied, "Dear Rosina, please quickly take this extraordinary power back from me. I had thought I would make people happy by knowing what they are thinking about but it was just the reverse. It made a bad impression about me as I interfered into others' private matters. I want to be a normal girl once again."
Suddenly, I felt a jerk. I woke up and to my surprise, I was lying on my berth, my brother trying to wake me up. We had reached Ranchi. I was contented to know that what I had just gone through was just a silly dream. I shall remember and cherish this wonderful dream throughout my life.

To attain lasting happiness

- Neha Singh, VII B
Every single human soul in his world has an inherent desire to be happy and remain happy throughout his lifespan on earth. Everyone utilizes all the resources at one's command and leaves no stone unturned all through his earthly existence but real, true and ever enduring happiness almost always alludes it's seeker and the person falls into oblivion with his cherished dream unfulfilled. Huge amassed wealth, assets, earthly comforts and pleasures provide only a momentary happiness and worse, they inflate one's ego so much that the person loses track in his avowed goal of life the aim of achieving a meaningful happiness in the real sense of the term.
What therefore, is required is that we set our aims intelligently, i.e., ask only for the things we deserve and are capable of getting with hard work and dedication, and try to find pleasure in little happy moments of our lives.
