Certificate of Guinness World Records

Largest school by pupils

It was in 1999 that CMS entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the first time. The certificate signed by Keeper of the Records stated: ‘The largest school by pupils is the City Montessori School, Lucknow, India which had a world record enrolment of 22,612 pupils in 1999’. Eight years later, in February 2008, CMS received an updated certificate from Guinness World Records that stated: ‘The largest school by pupils is the CityMontessoriSchool, Lucknow, India which had a record enrolment of 32,114 pupils on 5 February 2008, for the 2007-08 academic year’.

On the Guinness World Records website (www.guinnessworldrecords.com) you can type the keyword ‘school’ on the site’s ‘Find a world record’ search box. You will be led to the search result link: Amazing Feats – Mass Participation – Largest school by pupils. Click on this and voila! Under the heading ‘Largest school by pupils’, you get to see a photo of a CMS classroom where a teacher is surrounded by her smiling students. This is accompanied by Who, What, Where and When of the CMS record.

CMS was founded in 1959 on the motto ‘Jai Jagat’ (Hail the World) by the visionary couple Mr Jagdish Gandhi and Mrs Bharti Gandhi. The school’s unique philosophy and education continues to draw an increasing number of parents and children who register into its fold every year.
