Dear Mr. Gandhi,
On behalf of the President of the Swiss Confederation Moritz
Leuenberger, we acknowledge receipt of your email dated
the 18th February 2001, in which you infor our government
on your activities for promoting world peace.
We are satisfied to learn that single person, private organizations
and authorities all over the world make every effort to
foster and keep peace.
As you know, Switzerland has been able to stay out from
war for more than a century. Our country will therefore
also in the future take every step possible to ensure peace
worldwide and to ease off tensions; we will offer our support
when defusing regional crisis and international conflicts.
We will also support and bilateral and multilateral institutions
for disarmament and arms control, which ensure security
world wise. Actively participating in the actions of the
international community for strong economic cooperation
worldwide and financially supporting poor countries should
help to even out the continuous, deep economic differences,
which stir up already existing crisis and worsen the situation
in the conflict areas of the world.
Our government welcomes activities that bring peace closer
to the people. Therefore, we certainly recognize the extensive
and selfless measures for peace promotion of your Seminar
on World Peace and the Article 51 of the Constitution of
India. In this connection, let us point out that, mainly
during the past years, Switzerland has fostered and extended
its peacekeeping measures.
Let us take this opportunity, also on behalf of the President
of the Swiss Confederation to wish you success for your
Seminar and satisfaction in the selfless effort for fostering
world peace.
