My
deepest felicitations to the participants of the 3rd International
Conference of Chief Justices of the World on Article 51(c)
of the Constitution of India with the theme “Enforceable
International Law is Our Need” at the City Montessori
School (CMS), Lucknow, India from December 6-8-, 2002.
Once again Jurists, peace advocates and parents from various
jurisdictions convene at CMS to promote the rights of children
all over the world, those already born and those yet to-be-born,
particularly their rights to a safe ecology and safe future.
The inclusion of a separate and distinct Right to a Safe
Future in the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child should
underscore the International community’s recognition
of the importance and immediacy of such a right.
Indeed, the concern for all children binds all men and
women and governments alike to work for and support legislative
and administrative measures that advance the children’s
interest. In a world where wisdom obtains its seasonings
in political sophistication and correctness, we need to
learn from the wisdom of children which is articulated not
only in their simplicity and innocence, but also and surprisingly,
in their often unerring discernment of what is right and
wrong.
May Almighty God gift us then with the pure hearts of
children, endowed as they are with such immovable faith
and boundless joie de vivre for love, life and hope for
a better future for mankind.
May God bless us all and all of humanity’s endeavors
for peace.
