I received with immense pleasure Your letter dated 31st
August 2002 along-with the enclosed brochure. I would like
at the outset to express my heartfelt gratitude for the
kind invitation extended to me to appear, as Guest of Honour,
before the 3rd International Conference of Chief Justices
and present my vista on the Rights of children of the world
to a safe future.
This conference offers a unique opportunity for me, other
leaders of the world and the International Judiciary to
proclaim our binding obligation towards generating the necessary
impetus to create a better future for children in the world.
However, I regret to inform you that I am unable to attend
the conference due to my various obligations.
Your Honour
I have, on several occasions, expressed my personal commitment
towards this noble goal. Sudan was among the first countries
to ratify Children’s Right Convention, developed a
Nation Plan of Action and established the National Council
for Child welfare. The Ambitious programmes launched by
the government of Sudan to combat poverty and eradicate
diseases through sustainable economic and social developments
have children well-being on focus.
Desired results have not been fully achieved due to the
difficult and challenging circumstances created by the prolonged
war in Southern Sudan and the recurring natural disasters.
Nevertheless our resolve to attain those goals in unrelenting.
I am confident that international cooperation and initiatives
by people of good – will to rally efforts will certainly
secure a bright and safe future for children in the world.
While wishing the conferees every success in their grand
mission, I wish you, too, good health and prosperity.
Omar Hassan Ahmed Al Bashir
President of the Republic of the Sudan
